The Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its ordinary meeting corresponding to the second half of the year at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo today, where it was informed of the activities undertaken this year and of the Foundation’s financial situation and assets.

The Foundation’s president, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, and director, Teresa Sanjurjo, reported on the activities undertaken by the Foundation throughout the year, focussing especially on the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony and the events featuring the Laureates, the activities related to the institution’s Music Department and the impact all these events have had in the media.

The report includes information on participation at the events organized around the Award Ceremony, attended by more than 17,000 people, and an economic evaluation of the news generated by the Foundation in the Spanish media during the month of October, which amounted to 21,200,851 euros according to data provided by media monitoring consultants Kantar Media.

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the action plan and budget for 2016, amounting to 5.1 million euros, a figure that continues the line of restraint in spending of prior years while maintaining the same activities organized by the Foundation. This budget also strengthens the trend towards budgetary independence, with 87% of its income coming from private sources and 13% of funding coming from the public sector.

In addition to analyzing other matters of interest to the Foundation, the Board also approved the incorporation of TSK, the Gestamp Group and Fujistsu España to the Princess of Asturias Board of Trustees and the appointment of Agua de Cuevas and the Roxu Group as new Patrons of the institution.

The meeting also agreed to appoint José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles as an emeritus trustee, as he had to step down as trustee of the institution on reaching the statutory age limit of 75. The Board of Trustees also expressed its thanks to Mr Álvarez Rendueles for the support he has provided in his more than 35 years as a member of this governing body, during part of which he was president of the Foundation, namely between 1996 and 2008.
