The XX Music Week will include nineteen concerts between 14th and 20th October

The concerts, organised by the Prince of Asturias Foundation and Cajastur, will be held at eleven locations around Asturias.

Music Week, organised by the Prince of Asturias Foundation and Cajastur during the week prior to the Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony, will begin on Friday, 14th October and run until 20th of the month.
The musical series, which this year celebrates its 20th edition, will include the participation of groups belonging to different musical genres: among others, the piano for four hands Wanderer Duo, the percussion group AMORES, the medieval music ensemble Eloqventia and the Forma Antiqva ensemble. The winners of the “Angel Muñiz Toca” End of Studies Prize for young musicians at the “Eduardo Martinez Torner” Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Principality of Asturias will also take part in the series.
Nineteen concerts in all will be given in eleven locations dotted around Asturias: Oviedo, Gijón, Avilés, Mieres, Cangas de Onis, Infiesto, Moreda, Pola de Lena, Ribadesella, Sotrondio and Vegadeo.
The concerts will be held at the Cajastur Cultural Centre, San Francisco 4, and the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo; the Cajastur Pavilion at the Luis Adaro Exhibition Grounds, in Gijón; the Municipal Art and Exhibition Centre in Avilés; the Cajastur Cultural Centre, Jerome Ibrán 10, in Mieres; the Municipal Cultural Centre in Cangas de Onis; the Carmen Cinema/Theatre in Moreda; the Municipal Cultural Centre in Infiesto; the Aza Vital Theatre in Pola de Lena; the Municipal Cultural Centre in Ribadesella; the Church of Saint Martin of Tours in Sotrondio; and the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, in Vegadeo.
The opening of the XX Music Week will take place on Friday, 14th October in Oviedo, Gijón, Cangas de Onis, Moreda and Ribadesella, at 8pm, and in Sotrondio, at 7.30pm.
The piano for four hands Wanderer Duo, formed by Maria Teresa Perez Hernandez and Jaime Pantin Francisco, will open the Week at the Cajastur Cultural Centre in Oviedo, with works by Mozart, Schubert, Ravel and Gershwin adapted to this peculiar mode of piano interpretation.
The Cajastur Pavilion at the Luis Adaro Exhibition Grounds in Gijón will host the Valencian percussion group AMORES. Formed in 1989, the group consists of Pau Ballester, Angel Garcia and Jesus Salvador “Chapi”, who throughout their lengthy career have combined performance with teaching and research activities.
The soloists Jesus Fernandez Naveira and Jaime Calvo-Morillo, winners of the “Angel Muñiz Toca” End of Studies Prize will perform at the Cangas de Onís Cultural Centre, playing the violin and cello, respectively. Ribadesella Cultural Centre will likewise host the other two winners of this distinction conferred by the “Eduardo Martinez Torner” Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Principality of Asturias, Ivan Fernandez Alende, tuba, and Alvaro González Cortes, flute.
The duo formed by the cellist Antonio Peña Fernandez and the pianist Paula Raposo Rodriguez will perform works by Beethoven, Falla, Cassado and Piazzolla at the Carmen Cinema/Theatre in Moreda. In the Church of St. Martin of Tours in Sotrondio, the chamber groups “La Castalia” will combine voice and instrumental music in their endeavour to spread chamber music works in which these two elements come together.
Admission to the concerts will be free until all seats are taken, except for the finale concert, attendance at which will be restricted. It will be necessary to present the corresponding invitation to attend this concert, which is to be presided over by TRH the Prince and Princess of Asturias.
The Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo will host the finale concert of the series on Thursday, 20th October. Riccardo Muti, 2011 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, will conduct the Luigi Cherubini Youth Orchestra and the Prince of Asturias Foundation Choir, who will perform Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor.
