Soprano Ainhoa Arteta will give the inaugural talk ar the Prince of Asturias Foundation's 2013 International Music School Summer Courses

Since their creation in 2005, over a thousand students from 28 countries have attended the Courses.

Soprano Ainhoa Arteta is to give the inaugural talk at the Prince of Asturias Foundation's 2013 International Music School Summer Courses. The event will take place at 11am on 18th July in the Auditorium of the "Eduardo Martínez Torner" Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Principality of Asturias. In previous years, the Courses have been opened by Fernando Argenta, host of the music programmes "Clásicos Populares" and "El Conciertazo", singers Luz Casal, Victor Manuel and Jorge Ruiz, of the pop group "Maldita Nerea", Galician musician Carlos Nuñez and producer and musician Carlos Jean.

Ainhoa Arteta

She made her operatic debut in 1990 in the United States. Since then, she has pursued an international career in theatres such as the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Covent Garden in London, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Amsterdam Opera, Bonn Opera, Teatro Bellas Artes in Mexico, San Carlo in Naples, Washington Opera, San Francisco Opera, Arena di Verona and La Scala in Milan, among others.  Her performance alongside Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony marked a milestone in her career, as did her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York alongside Dolora Zajick and Plácido Domingo, with whom she collaborates giving performances in Spain, the USA, Brazil, Lebanon, France, Turkey, England, Germany and Austria. Her most celebrated performances include her participation in the opera Faust at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the Münchner Opern-Festspiele, the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga and the Palau de la Música in Valencia; La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera House, the Maestranza in Seville, the Peralada Festival, Graz (Austria) and the Teatro Pérez Galdós in the Canary Islands, La Bohème at the Metropolitan Opera House, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas, Villamarta Theatre Opera, Amsterdam Opera, Arena di Verona and Teatro Verdi in Trieste; Turandot in the Bilbao Opera Season; Romeo et Juliette at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo, the Palacio Bellas Artes in Mexico, Teatro Perez Galdós in Las Palmas and Teatro Cervantes in Malaga; Les Pecheurs de Perles at the Seattle Opera, Bordeaux, Riga Opera and Bilbao Opera; Così fan tutte and La Rondine at the Washington Opera and Bonn Opera; Carmen with the Scottish Opera and at the Teatro del Liceo; Fedora at the Metropolitan Opera; and  Les Mamelles de Tiresias at the Metropolitan Opera House under the baton of James Levine. Worth highlighting from her intensive activity as a concert singer are her recital at the White House, her debut at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London and the concert in Baalbeck (Lebanon), alongside Plácido Domingo, the 70th Anniversary Memorial Concert at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico, along with Ramon Vargas, her interpretation of Mozart's Concert Arias at the Palau de la Música in Valencia, Richard Strauss' Vier letzte Lieder and at the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, alongside the Cadaqués Orchestra conducted by Sir Neville Marriner.

Member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Cadiz and patron of the Orfeo Català-Palau de la Música Foundation, she has received numerous awards. These include the Hispanic Society of America Award, the award for "Best Classical Artist" in the 5th Spanish Music Awards, the ONDAS Prize, the Golden Microphone from the Spanish Federation of Radio and Television Associations, and the City of Alcalá Award for Arts and Letters. She has won the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in New York and Placido Domingo's Operalia World Opera Contest in Paris.

2013 Summer Courses

The Courses will be held at the "Eduardo Martinez Torner" Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Principality of Asturias and at the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo from 18th to 27th July.

Twenty-six professors of nine different nationalities shall give classes covering the standard range of symphonic orchestral instruments, in addition to chamber music and ensemble classes for string quartet, wind ensemble, folk music ensemble, youth orchestra and junior orchestra. This year the school is to introduce, in collaboration with the Red Cross Youth Programme for Promoting Health and Health Education, the workshop "If you have no doubts... You make the choice!" on preventing and raising awareness regarding drug use and unhealthy habits. In addition, the Musical Health Department maintains its contribution, imparting the subject "Human body resources applied to music", aimed at developing naturalness, postural habits and the body-mind relationship in musicians.

Since 2005, 1,058 students from 28 different countries (Argentina, Austria, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Estonia, France, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Moldova, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK , Ukraine, USA and  Venezuela) have attended the School.

The Prince of Asturias Foundation International Music School

The Prince of Asturias Foundation International Music School represents the consolidation of an ambitious project initiated in 1990 with the relocation to Asturias of the prestigious chamber orchestra "The Moscow Virtuosi" and of its six renowned professors (Gaiane Pogossova, Tsiala Kvernadze, Alexei Mijlin, Alexander Fedorchenko, Victor Afanassiev and Yuri Nasushkin) under the auspices of our institution. After years of collaboration and on the initiative of Yuri Nasushkin, the Foundation created its International Music School in 2005 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Prince of Asturias Awards

Classes are taught by a distinguished international teaching staff, while the School includes among its visiting professors some of the world's most celebrated musicians, some of whom have been Prince of Asturias Award laureates, which makes the School different to any other existing in Spain.

The Prince of Asturias Foundation International Music School is active throughout the entire year, organising seminars, conferences and master classes that count on the participation as visiting professors of some of the world's most outstanding musicians, including the Prince of Asturias Laureates Teresa Berganza and Krzysztof Penderecki, among others. Since 2005, classes have been given by teachers from: the Detmold Academy of Music (Germany); the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow; the Geneva Conservatory of Music; the Robert Schuman School of Music and Media, Düsseldorf; the Russian Gnesin Academy of Music, Moscow; the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance, Jerusalem; the Mons Royal Conservatory (Belgium); the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London; the Advanced School of Music and Performing Arts, Oporto (ESMAE); the Yehudi Menuhin School (UK); the Juilliard School, New York; and the Royal College of Music, London.

The School is committed, in this way, to converting the Principality into a national and international leader in the teaching of music, bringing young talents to Asturias as well as the best music and instrumental specialists.
