Javier Pérez de Cuéllar

Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation 1987

At its meeting in Oviedo, on the 7th and 8th of May 1987, the Jury for the 1987 Prince of Asturias Award for Latin-American Cooperation*, made up of Mr. Claudio Boada, Mr. Emilio Botín Ríos, Mr. Jaime Carvajal y Urquijo, Mr. Obdulio Fernández, Mr. Martín González del Valle, Mr. Gerardo Iglesias, Mr, Manuel Olivencia, Mr. Jaime de Piniés, Mr. Manuel de Prado y Colón de Carvajal, Mr. José Prat, Mr. José Joaquín Puig de la Bellacasa, Mr. Antonio Ramalho Eanes, Mr. Luis Yáñez-Barnuevo, chaired by Mr. Leopoldo Calvo-Sotelo with Mr. Teodoro López-Cuesta Egocheaga as its secretary, agrees to bestow this award on Mr. Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, Secretary General of the United Nations.

The Jury thereby wishes to recognise the work carried out by Mr. Pérez de Cuéllar in defence of peace, international security, human rights and cooperation between nations, particularly between those making up the Latin American community.
