Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 1991

The Jury for the 1991 Prince of Asturias Award for Arts, comprising Bernardo Fernández, Simón Marchán, Manuel Martín Ferrand, Miguel de Oriol e Ybarra, Araceli Pereda Alonso, José Manuel Pita Andrade, Miguel Satrústegui, under the chairmanship of Antonio Pedrol Rius and with Jorge Fernández Bustillo acting as secretary, gathered together in Oviedo, have decided unanimously to grant the 1991 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts to the generation of Spanish lyrical singers represented by Victoria de los Angeles, Teresa Berganza, Montserrat Caballé, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, Alfredo Kraus and Pilar Lorengar.

The artists who, as a group, receive this Award, personify with their immense musical talent a moment of exceptional brilliance in our lyrical music, bearing the name of Spain everywhere and encouraging a growing love of music across the whole of society.
