Gregory Winter and Richard A. Lerner

Prince of Asturias Award for Technical & Scientific Research 2012

"It is my honor to accept this prestigious award together with Sir Greg. This is a wonderful recognition for the field of immunochemistry and combinatorial antibody libraries and all that they have contributed to human health"

Richard A. Lerner
La Jolla (California), 31st May 2012

"Therapeutic antibodies are revolutionising the treatment of cancer and autoimmune diseases. The first steps in this revolution were taken by the great Argentinian scientist, Dr. Cesar Milstein, working at the Medical Research Council's Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and who taught me much about antibodies. I am honoured to have been selected for this award from among the band of scientists who, like Cesar, helped to make antibodies mainstream pharmaceutical drugs"

Gregory Winter
Cambridge (England), 31st May 2012

"I was delighted to hear that the committee has awarded the prize in science and technology to Greg Winter and Richard Lerner. I have known Greg since he came to the Laboratory of Molecular Biology years ago as a student. It is particularly fitting that the Principe de Asturias prize should go to them for the development of very special versions of monoclonal antibodies"
