Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences 2015

Statement by Esther Duflo on being bestowed with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences

“I am hugely honored and humbled to have received this distinction. I could not possibly imagine being worthy of it. And the truth is that I would not be worth of it on the strength of my own work alone, but this award recognizes the importance of rigorous methods to design and evaluate anti-poverty policies. This is work that is carried out by hundred of researchers and thousands of staff, with partners in civil society, NGO and governments around the world. On behalf of all these people, I am overjoyed to accept this award, and join an amazing group of recipients before me. I am sure it will greatly contribute to the visibility and the impact of the work we do.”
