Change of name of the Prince of Asturias Foundation and of the Prince of Asturias Awards

On the occasion of the proclamation of HM King Felipe VI and the succession to the title of Prince of Asturias.

Following the proclamation of HM King Felipe VI and the succession of HRH Princess Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz, Heir to the Crown of Spain, to the title of Prince or Princess of Asturias, the Prince of Asturias Foundation and Awards will now be respectively called the Princess of Asturias Foundation and the Princess of Asturias Awards.

In accordance with the decision the Board of Trustees of the Foundation reached today at an extraordinary meeting in Oviedo to approve the amendment of its Statutes, the change of name will be effective as of the 2015 Awards, to be called the Princess of Asturias Awards.

Founded in 1980, the essential aims of the institution are to consolidate the existing links between the Principality and the person who holds the title of Prince or Princess of Asturias as heir to the Crown of Spain and to contribute to extolling and promoting those scientific, cultural and humanistic values that form part of the universal heritage of humanity. Instigated in 1981 to symbolize the goals and nature of the Foundation, the Prince of Asturias Awards and are currently in their thirty-fourth year.
