Princess of Asturias Awards 10/07/2022

Juan Mayorga, 2022 Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature, is to meet with book clubs linked to public libraries

Under the title “Busy with Words”, the meeting will take place starting at 7:30pm on Monday 24th October, in the Laboral Theatre, Gijón.

The Palacio Valdés Theatre in Avilés will host “Unpublished Mayorga”, an event in which Mayorga will read an unpublished text, with explanations about writing and dramatic representation

Juan Mayorga, 2022 Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature, will meet with book clubs linked to public libraries in Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria and Castile and León. Under the title “Busy with Words”, the event will take place starting at 7:30pm on Monday 24th October, in the Laboral Theatre, Gijón.

Over the last few months, the members of these clubs have read various of the Laureate’s plays including, La lengua en pedazos, El chico de la última fila, El cartógrafo, Silencio, La tortuga de Darwin, El Golem and El Mago. Admission, by invitation only, will be limited to book club members.

In addition, Mayorga will meet with students from the Asturias School of Dramatic Art at the school itself, also based in the Laboral complex in Gijón, on Tuesday 25th October.

Reading with annotations in Avilés

Under the title “Unpublished Mayorga”, the Laureate will read an annotated unpublished text, with explanations about writing and dramatic representation. The event will take place at the Palacio Valdés Theatre in Avilés on Wednesday 26th October and will be open to the public.

Awards Week

These activities form part of a cultural programme designed by the Foundation that includes the participation of the Princess of Asturias Laureates in a variety of activities during the days leading up to the Awards Ceremony at the Campoamor Theatre. Since 1996, the Foundation has scheduled different activities in diverse locations in Asturias aimed at making the Laureates and their contributions to the world of science, culture or any other field in which they work better known to society at large.
