Ordinary meeting of the Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees

Held today in Oviedo

©FPA

The Board of Trustees of the Princess of Asturias Foundation held its first meeting of the year today in Oviedo. Both the president, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, and the director, Teresa Sanjurjo, reported on the administration of the Foundation’s finances and assets and the carrying out and follow-up of the activities undertaken this past year and, in particular, the list of nominations submitted to date.

The Foundation’s Board of Trustees agreed to re-elect Matías Rodríguez Inciarte as president of the institution. It also approved a system of automatically renewing the make-up of the Juries for the Awards, with members sitting on a Jury for a maximum of four consecutive years. To facilitate the transition towards this model, which ensures the rotation of Jury members, it is to be applied from 2017 onwards, beginning with the renewal of the older members.

During the meeting, the results of the study by consulting firm KPMG, commissioned in 2014 and carried out during 2015, was presented to the members of the Board of Trustees. The aim of this study was to identify those areas of the Foundation that were likely to require mechanisms of internal control better fitting to the specific characteristics of the institution. Having identified these points and presented the report to the Board, work will commence on developing such mechanisms based on the recommendations contained in the study.

Two e-books published by the Foundation were also presented to the Board of Trustees.

The first of these consists of a compilation of the speeches given by The King during the 34 years in which the institution and the Awards it grants bore the name of Prince of Asturias, between 1981 and 2014. This book will be available in both Spanish and English from tomorrow, Thursday 31st April, on the Foundation website.

The second, published to mark the 25th anniversary of the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award, contains all the Minutes of the Jury, excerpts from speeches given by The King over this period on the occasion of presenting the Award, a map with the itinerary followed during the visit and a selection of the day’s best photographs. The book will also be available on the Foundation’s website following its presentation at the next Meeting of Exemplary Towns, to be held in June.
