Princess of Asturias Awards 10/18/2021

RTVE to provide the official host signal for the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony

The meetings Marina Abramović and Gloria Steinem will hold with the public and the conversation with Amartya Sen will be broadcast via live streaming.

As on previous occasions, the Spanish public service television and radio companies Televisión Española (TVE) and Radio Nacional de España (RNE) will be responsible for providing the official host signals for the solemn Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony, to be held at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo this coming Friday 22nd October, starting at 6:30pm. TVE will also be providing the television signal for the audience of the Laureates with TM The King and Queen, The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain, which will take place at 12:50pm on Friday in the Reconquista Hotel’s “Salón Covadonga” reception room.

RNE will provide the audio signal from the dressing rooms in the Campoamor Theatre to all the radio networks, while TVE will distribute the television signal. Media interested in using the official signal should get in touch beforehand with:

The areas specially designated for news writers at the Campoamor Theatre will be Main Boxes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 in the Dress Circle (“Principal”). Maximum of one news writer per media until all seats are taken. Due to the limited space available, we advise following the ceremony from the screens situated in the Foundation’s press room at the Hotel Barceló Oviedo Cervantes (calle Cervantes, 13, Oviedo).

AWARDS WEEK EVENTS

  • Marina Abramović meets with the public. The Laureate will converse with María de Corral, curator, art critic and member of the Jury for the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, about her professional career, the keys to her artistic work and her aspirations for the future. The event will be held starting at 7:30pm on Tuesday 19th October at the Jovellanos Theatre, Gijón.
    TELEVISION CAMERAS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INSIDE THE THEATRE DURING THE EVENT.
    Signal (SDI connection) and live streaming broadcast (via a link on www.fpa.es/en). An XLR connection for audio in English (original) and Spanish (translation) will be made available to the media.
  • Gloria Steinem meets with the public. . The Laureate will converse with Monserrat Domínguez, Head of Content for the Cadena SER radio network, about her career and her personal and professional experience in the feminist movement. The event will take place starting at 6:00pm on Thursday 21st October in the Warehouse building at La Vega Arms Factory in Oviedo.
    Signal (SDI connection) and live streaming broadcast (via a link on www.fpa.es/en). An XLR connection for audio in English (original) and Spanish (translation) will be made available to the media.
  • A Conversation with Amartya Se. Online event. The Laureate will hold a conversation with Marta Elvira, secretary of the Jury for the 2021 Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, in which they will address the main lines of his thinking. The moderator will also share with Amartya Sen some questions posed by the audience. The event will commence at 8:00pm on Thursday 21st October.
    It will be broadcast exclusively via streaming (access via a link on www.fpa.es/en).

Special coverage:

  • Breakfast meeting between Gloria Steinem, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Communication and Humanities, and lecturers on the Master’s and PhD programmes in Feminist and Gender Studies, belonging to the University Institute on Gender and Diversity. The event will commence at 11:00am on Wednesday 20th October. It will be held in the meeting room of the Dean’s Office, situated on the second floor of the Administration Building, Humanities Campus, University of Oviedo.
    Photographic coverage only. Photographers will be allowed access during the first 5 minutes of the meeting.
  • Breakfast meeting between Katalin Karikó, Drew Weissman, Philip Felgner and Derrick Rossi and members of the biochemical and biotechnological scientific community. The event will commence at 9:30am on Thursday 21st October in the Library of the University of Oviedo’s Historic Building.
    Photographic coverage only. Photographers will be allowed access during the first 5 minutes of the meeting.

An XLR audio connection will be made available at the following events:

  • “You’re from Mieres”. José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen NGO meet with the public.
  • CAMFED - Campaign for Female Education meets with the public.
  • “The Time of Science”. Katalin Karikó, Drew Weissman, Philip Felgner and Derrick Rossi meet with the public.
  • Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci meet with the public.
  • “Writing and Life”. Meeting between Emmanuel Carrère and members of book clubs linked to the Principality of Asturias Public Libraries Network.

29th PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS AWARDS CONCERT

Recordings may only be made inside the auditorium before the concert starts. Video images will be made available via the Princess of Asturias Foundation’s Online Press Room (www.fpa.es/en) to those media interested in obtaining images of the performance, which will take place at the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo starting at 7:30pm on Thursday 21st October.

All the press conferences to be given by the Laureates will be held online. Accredited media interested in covering the press conferences should contact the Foundation to request the ZOOM link.

The press conferences by the Laureates will be broadcast over the Foundation’s website.
