Within the framework of the Princess of Asturias Foundation International Music School Summer Courses, which are to be held between 19th and 28th of July, teachers and students will be offering a total of seventeen concerts. Ten of these will be at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium and the Conde de Toreno Palace in Oviedo. Admission to all of the concerts will be free until all seats are taken.

During the teachers´concert, which will be held on Sunday 22nd July, at the Príncipe Felipe Auditorium, the clarinetist, Ana María Pérez, will be playing the work Jekyll & Hyde by Diana Pérez Custodio for the first time, with literary texts by Robert Louis Stevenson. This composition was an award winner in the 2017 edition of the Clarinet Composition Competition, convened by the Spanish Association of Electro-acoustic Music and Sound Art (AMEE).

Following last year´s success, the School will be setting in motion, once again, the cycle “Music on Wheels”. A vintage van will be driving around the most emblematic places in the city to offer four open-air concerts, with the aim of bringing classical music closer to all the people living in Oviedo and/or all the tourists who will be visiting the capital of Asturias during the fourth week of July.

For the second consecutive year, the general public will also be able to enjoy “Micro Theatre Concerts”: short musical performances accompanied by tales played out by actors. This activity will take place on Saturday, 21st July at 19:30h in Alfonso II “El Casto” Square (Cathedral Square), Oviedo.

A total of 143 students from Belgium, The United States, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, The United Kingdom, Russia and Spain are taking part in this edition. The courses have an initial generic grant which enables all the students to have access to more affordable tuition fees. In 2017, The Foundation covered 59,6 per cent of the cost of the School´s activities.

The classes will be given by twenty-three teachers of nine different nationalities and will include keyboard, string and woodwind instruments and song, as well as musical ensemble subjects. These teachers are prestigious musicians from centres such as the Juillard School in New York, the Ra´anana Music Center in Israel, the University of Maryland Music School (United states) or the “Ippolitov-Ivanov” National Institute of Musical Education in Moscow and from orchestras such as the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra (United States), the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra and the orchestra from the Gran Teatro del Liceo in Barcelona.
