Programme of activities with the laureates, which will be held during the days prior to the Prince of Asturias Awards Presentation Ceremony

Since 1996, and during the days prior to the presentation ceremony of the Prince of Asturias Awards, the Foundation holds several events in different locations in Asturias. The aim of these activities is to give the public an opportunity to get to know some of the most renowned personalities worldwide in the fields of research and culture, who come to the Principality each year.

The events that will be held during the Week of the Awards include, among other activities, a visit from David Attenborough, Prince of Asturias Awards laureate for Social Sciences, to the “Jardín Botánico Atlántico”, the botanic gardens in Gijón, and a conference that will be held at the assembly hall in the Laboral “City of Culture”. Martin Cooper and Raymond S. Tomlinson will participate in a collection of mobile telephones for the Third World at the Historic building at the University of Oviedo. In addition, Yelena Isinbayeva will hold a meeting with children and sport enthusiasts at the Sports Centre in Avilés.

Apart from the activities scheduled by the Foundation, the 2009 Prince of Asturias Awards laureates will hold different meetings with the press.
