TRH The Prince and Princess of Asturias met with the members of the Prince of Asturias Foundation Boards of Trustees at the Royal Palace of El Pardo today Monday, 17th June, at 7:00pm.

A detailed report on the work carried out throughout the year was presented during the meeting, as well as a report on the financial situation and assets of the Foundation, which has ended the year with positive net income, in addition to reducing expenditure by 8.75% with respect to the previous year. The overall expenditure of the Foundation in 2012 reached the sum of 5.4 million euros.

The institution’s Annual Report, which contains figures and information related to the activities carried out throughout the year, was presented to the members of the Boards of Trustees during the meeting. The most significant activities comprise the granting and presentation of the Prince of Asturias Awards and the preparations for the cultural week held during those days, including sixteen events attended by around 14,000 people, as well as the work of the Music Department, which organised more than thirty concerts by the Foundation’s choirs, master classes and a new edition of the International Music School Summer Courses, with the participation of around 200 students of various nationalities.

In 2012, the Foundation also managed to reduce the environmental impact generated by its activities and offset its carbon footprint. This commitment has led to the 2012 Prince of Asturias Awards being awarded Zero CO2 emissions certification. Furthermore, a programme was launched to promote and facilitate access for people with disabilities at the events organised by the institution.

Musical performance

At the close of the meeting, the Foundation’s Youth Choir, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, offered a representative concert of its musical history since its inception. The programme ranged from Renaissance polyphony to genres like pop and gospel, works by Morten Lauridsen and Xabier Sarasola and songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals such as The Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar.
