The Prince of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its ordinary meeting corresponding to the second half of the year at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo on 12nd December where it informed of the activities undertaken this year and of the Foundation’s financial situation and assets.
The Foundation’s president, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, and director, Teresa Sanjurjo, reported on the activities undertaken by the Foundation throughout the year, focussing especially on the Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony and the events featuring the Laureates, the activities related to the institution’s Music Department and the impact all these events have had in the media.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the action plan and budget for 2014, amounting to 5.3 million euros, a figure that continues the line of restraint in spending of prior years while maintaining the same activities of the Foundation. This budget also strengthens the trend towards budgetary independence, with 83% of its income coming from private sources and 17% of funding from the public sector. The Board also informed that the Foundation is projected to close the financial year in the black, thanks to the support of the Foundation’s trustees and patrons, as was highlighted in the session.
In addition to analyzing other matters of interest to the Foundation, the Board also approved the appointment of Alberto Aza and the Mapfre Foundation to the Prince of Asturias Board of Trustees and the appointment of García Rodríguez Hermanos and the engineering firms IMPULSO Industrial Alternativo and Praxia Energy as new Patrons of the institution.
During the meeting, the Trustees recalled the commitment and work of the late member of this governing body, businessman Jose Cosmen, recently deceased, whose son Jacobo Cosmen also sits on the Prince of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees.
