The Prince of Asturias Foundation has revamped its website with the aim of providing it with a more visual, intuitive structure designed to give users direct access to information. The new environment streamlines navigation via a main menu that is complemented by a content tree at the bottom of the page. Its launch coincides with the start of the Jury meetings for the 34th edition of the Prince of Asturias Awards. To meet today’s browsing habits, the new design incorporates a multi-device version (responsive web design, or RWD) which enables content to be presented in accordance with the type of terminal accessing it, whether this be a desktop or laptop computer, tablet or smartphone. Social media buttons have also been added for users to share any content on the major social networks, as well as on blog and microblog platforms. The website features an audio-visual archive that includes more than 3,000 photographs and 500 videos reflecting the history of the institution from its origins until today.

As a member institution of the European Foundation Centre (EFC), the Foundation follows a number of good practices regarding transparency and good governance established by this association, the most representative of its kind in the foundation sector at a European level, as well as other criteria recommended by the Global Reporting Initiative.

To this end, the Foundation’s revamped website enables users to access information such as the institution’s statutes, governing bodies, financial information (including the balance sheet, income statement and audit charter) and a breakdown of the entity’s management team, just as occurred with the previous website.

In terms of accessibility, the new website conforms to the Double-A level of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 1.0. It also features a text-to-speech conversion service, available in Spanish, English, French, German and Portuguese. This automatic tool for reading online content is aimed at people with visual impairments or difficulty understanding written texts. The website also includes two accessible, easy-to-read documents providing information for people with visual or cognitive disabilities.
