Series of Christmas concerts featuring The Princess of Asturias choirs

The Youth Choir will open the concert series on Sunday, 14th December at the Filarmónica Theatre in Oviedo

The Foundation Choir will perform Handel’s “Messiah” on Friday, 19th December at the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo.

The three Princess of Asturias Foundation Choirs are to offer a series of Christmas concerts in Asturias throughout the month of December.

Youth Choir and Children’s Choir
The concert series will begin on Sunday, 14th December with a concert by the Youth Orchestra in the Filarmónica Theatre in Oviedo, at 1:00pm. The following day, this same choir will give a recital alongside students from the Advanced Conservatory of Asturias of the Principality of Asturias (CONSMUPA) in this institution’s auditorium, at 8:00pm. The Children’s Choir will give a concert at 6:00pm on Tuesday 16th in the square outside Oviedo Cathedral and another concert at 7:00pm on 20th in the Chamber Music Hall at the Prince Felipe Auditorium.

The Youth Choir will continue its Christmas programme on Saturday, 20th December with a concert at the Parish Church of San Martín El Real in Torazu (2008 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award) at 7:30pm. The following day, the choir will give a recital at the Church of Santa María de Narzana in Sariego (2006 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award) at 12:30pm and will close the concert series on Monday, 22nd March at the Church of San Julián de Box in Tudela Veguín, at 7:30pm.

The Youth Choir will offer a Christmas repertoire in these concerts, including compositions from the Christmas Oratorio by Camille Saint-Saëns, as well as Gloria in Altissimis Deo, works by Bach and Haendel, themes from African folklore, such as Tuli Tuli and Dubula, and carols. The Children’s Choir will perform a repertoire of Christmas songs from around the world, like Oh Tannenbaum, Frosty the Snowman, Campana sobre Campana and Fun, fun, fun, among others.

“Europe Hails Christmas: The Messiah” Concert

The Princess of Asturias Foundation Choir will perform Handel’s Messiah along with the Principality of Asturias Symphonic Orchestra (OSPA), conducted by Maestro Eduardo López Banzo. The concert will be held at 8:00pm on Friday, 19th September, in the Prince Felipe Auditorium in Oviedo.

The Princess of Asturias Foundation will make free tickets for this concert available for the general public, which may be collected from the Auditorium box office on 17th and 18th December from 10am to 2pm and from 4pm to 7pm.
