TM The King and Queen meet with the members of the Boards of Trustees of the Princess of Asturias Foundation
Today, Monday 22nd June, at the Royal Palace of El Pardo in Madrid, at 6:00pm.
The Moscow Virtuosi Quartet will give a concert at the close of the meeting.

TM The King and Queen are to meet with the members of the Boards of Trustees of the Prince of Asturias Foundation at the Royal Palace of El Pardo today, Monday 22nd June, at 6:00pm.
A detailed report on the work carried out throughout 2014 will be presented during the meeting, as well as a report on the financial situation and assets of the Foundation, which has ended the year with positive net income and a similar level of expenditure to that of the previous year. The overall expenditure of the Foundation in 2014 reached the sum of 5.23 million euros.
The institution’s Annual Report, which contains figures and information related to the activities carried out throughout the year, will be presented to the members of the Boards of Trustees during the meeting. The most significant activities comprise the granting and presentation of the Prince of Asturias Awards (as of 2015, Princess of Asturias Awards) and the arrangements for the cultural week held over those days. Last year, these included twenty-one free events open to the general public which were attended by around 23,000 people. A report will also be given on the work of the Music Department, which organized more than fifty concerts by the Foundation’s three choirs, as well as a new edition of the International Music School Summer Courses, which were opened under the presidency of HM The Queen and attended by over 167 students of ten different nationalities.
In terms of sustainability, the global CO2 emissions from the activities organized by the Foundation on the occasion of the Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony experienced an overall reduction of 57 tons between 2011 and 2014. This commitment has resulted in the 2014 Prince of Asturias Awards having been awarded the Zero CO2 emissions eco-label for events. The Foundation has likewise launched joint projects with institutions that have received our Awards, such as Google and CERN, and has instigated activities with schools to make the work of the Foundation and its Laureates better known to young people.
Musical performance
After the meeting, the Moscow Virtuosi Quartet, which this year celebrates the 25th anniversary of its arrival in Spain, will give a concert comprising works by Boccherini, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Albéniz. The quartet is composed of musicians Lev Chistyakov (violin), Amayak Dourgarian (violin), Oleg Lev (viola) and Alexander Osokin (cello).
Lev Chistyakov (violin)
He graduated and received his Master’s diploma under the supervision of Professor Boris Belenki in the Violin Division chaired by David Oisrakh at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow, where he subsequently taught as a member of faculty, as well as at the Central Music School. He worked and performed as a soloist with the renowned Moscow Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Rudolf Barshai. In Spain, he has both performed assiduously as a concert musician and has taught extensively.
Amayak Dourgarian (violin)
A violinist, conductor and teacher of international renown, he is the concertmaster of the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA). He began to teach in Armenia, where he holds the title of Artist Emeritus, and later at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He has taught Violin and Chamber Music at the Eduardo Martínez Torner Advanced Conservatory of Music of the Principality of Asturias and on the Princess of Asturias Foundation International Music School Summer Courses.
Oleg Lev (viola)
He studied at the Undergraduate School at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Moscow, specializing in Chamber Music and, in particular, String Quartet. He was a member of the USSR State Television and Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra until 1992. He is the main driving force behind the Evaristo Valle International Chamber Music Festival in Gijón. He currently performs as a soloist with the Academia de Música de Cámara ensemble and has been Principal Viola in the Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra (OSPA) since 1992.
Alexander Osokin (violoncelo)
He began his musical studies at the age of six at the Central School of Music in his hometown and then studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Rostropovich, 1997 Prince of Asturias Award for Concord. He subsequently obtained his PhD specializing in String Quartet at the Russian Gnesin Academy of Music under the supervision of Berlinsky. He won first prize and the gold medal in the Herbert von Karajan International Competition in Berlin, subsequently occupying the position of Co-Principal Cellist in the International Orchestra, under the baton of von Karajan. He currently teaches Cello and Chamber Music at the Julian Orbón Conservatory in Avilés, as well as teaching Cello on the Solo Performance Master’s Degree (MIS) at the Katarina Gurska School of Music, in Madrid. He has also taught Cello on the Princess of Asturias Foundation’s International Music School Summer Courses since 2014.
