Updated - Press conferences schedule and arrival of the Laureates in Asturias

The Laureates for the 2017 Princess of Asturias Awards, whose Awards Ceremony will take place on 20th October in the Campoamor Theatre, Oviedo, will begin arriving in the Principality on Saturday 14th. The members of Les Luthiers, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, will be the first to do so.

In addition to featuring in different cultural events throughout the week, this year’s Laureates will hold several meetings with the press, as detailed below.

The European Union, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will be represented by Antonio Tajani, European Parliament President, Jean Claude Juncker, European Commission President, and Donald Tusk, European Council President.

The award conferred on The Hispanic Society of America (HSA), Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, will be received by Philippe de Montebello, Chairman of the Board of the HSA, and Mitchell Codding, its Executive Director and President.

The LIGO Scientific Collaboration, joint Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research together with Rainer Weiss, Kip S. Thorne and Barry C. Barish, will be represented by Laura Cadonati.

The All Blacks, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will be represented by Executive Director Steve Tew, who will be accompanied by players Grant Fox, Keven Mealamu, Conrad Smith, Israel Dagg and Jordie Barrett.

- All press conferences will be held in the Reconquista Hotel’s screening room (“Salón de Proyecciones”), the entrance to which is in Calle Arquitecto Reguera.

SATURDAY, 14th OCTOBER

  • Carlos Alberto Núñez, member of Les Luthiers, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, will get to Oviedo sometime on Saturday evening.
  • Fellow members Carlos López Puccio and Marcos Mundstock will arrive around 8:50pm.

SUNDAY, 15th OCTOBER

  • Jorge Maronna, Horacio Turano and Martín O’Connor, members of Les Luthiers, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 5.50pm.

MONDAY, 16th OCTOBER

  • Rainer Weiss, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, will arrive in Oviedo around 1.35pm.
  • Barry Barish, jointly bestowed with the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, is scheduled to arrive at 6.30pm.
  • Poet Adam Zagajewski, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 9.45pm.
  • Karen Armstrong, Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, is scheduled to arrive around 9.45pm.

TUESDAY, 17th OCTOBER

  • Grant Fox, member of the All Blacks, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will arrive at Hotel de la Reconquista at 1:35pm.
  • Mitchell Codding, Executive Director and President of The Hispanic Society of America, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, is scheduled to arrive at 1.35pm.
  • Steve Tew, Executive Director of the All Blacks, Princess of Asturias Award for Sport, will get to Oviedo at 4:00pm.
  • Kip S. Thorne, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, will arrive in Oviedo around 8:50pm.
  • Keven Mealamu, Jordie Barrett e Israel Dagg, players of the All Blacks, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel at 11.40pm.

WEDNESDAY, 18th OCTOBER

  • Laura Cadonati, representative of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 1.35pm.
  • Philippe de Montebello, Chairman of the Board of The Hispanic Society of America, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, is scheduled to arrive at 3.00pm.
  • William Kentridge, Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 5.00pm.
  • Conrad Smith, player of the All Blacks, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will get to Oviedo sometime on Wednesday.

FRIDAY, 20th OCTOBER

  • The representatives of the European Union, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord will be arriving in Asturias on Friday:
    • Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel at about 10:40h.
    •  Jean Claude Juncker, Pesident of the European Commission, and Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, will arrive in Oviedo during the afternoon.
