Earle ofreció una conferencia en el Teatro Palacio Valdés, donde se repasó su trayectoria investigadora y su labor de conservación de los océanos. Previamente, visitó el faro de San Juan de Nieva, donde se le facilitó información sobre el cañón de Avilés, uno de los valles submarinos más profundos del mundo. Planet Ocean Sylvia A. Earle visited San Juan de Nieva lighthouse, where she was given information about the Avilés canyon, one of the world’s deepest underwater canyons. Además, Wielicki visitó el colegio Paula Frassinetti de Avilés, donde ofreció una conferencia sobre su trayectoria deportiva y visitó la sede del Grupo de Montañeros Vetusta con motivo de su 75.º aniversario.
