59 Fundación Princesa de Asturias MEMORIA 2019 PREMIO AL PUEBLO EJEMPLAR DE ASTURIAS www.fpa.es SS.MM. los Reyes, en compañía de SS.AA.RR. la Princesa de Asturias y la Infanta Doña Sofía, se desplazaron a Asiegu el sábado 19 de octubre para hacer entrega del Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias 2019 a los vecinos de esta localidad del concejo de Cabrales. Este galardón, que concede la Fundación, es un reconocimiento “al pueblo, aldea, núcleo de población, espacio paisajístico o grupo humano del Principado de Asturias que haya destacado de modo notable en la defensa y conservación de su entorno natural, ambiental, de su patrimonio histórico, cultural o artístico, en iniciativas de impulso económico y social o en la realización de obras comunales u otras manifestaciones de solidaridad sobresalientes”. Tras el recibimiento oficial, la Familia Real comenzó la visita por el pueblo. En su recorrido visitaron una quesería artesanal tradicional y presenciaron las labores de producción del queso de Cabrales, típico de la zona, al visitar una quesería actual equipada con maquinaria moderna. Desde la balaustrada “Homenaje a les vaques”, obra del escultor José Sahagún, pudieron TM The King and Queen, accompanied by TRH the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Sofía, travelled to Asiegu on Saturday, 19th October to bestow the 2019 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award on the residents of this village in the Borough of Cabrales. This Award granted by the Foundation constitutes a recognition of the “town, village, population centre, scenic area or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that has stood out in a notable way in defending and conserving its natural or environmental setting, its historical, cultural or artistic heritage, or in the carrying out of outstanding communal works or other such displays of solidarity”. After the official reception, the Royal Family set out on a tour of the village. After visiting a traditional artisanal cheese dairy, they also saw how the typical blue cheese of this area, Cabrales, is made at a present-day cheese factory equipped with modern machinery.
