Tras más de tres décadas de existencia, se ha convertido en un referente social, político y cultural en torno al libro. Nacida para ampliar los horizontes del libro en español y para contribuir a que este siga siendo el principal vehículo educativo y cultural de la sociedad moderna, cuenta con tres áreas de acción —editorial, académica y cultural— y se ha convertido en lugar de encuentro entre los autores, sus lectores y demás actores de la industria de la lectura, como agentes literarios, bibliotecarios, libreros y más de dos mil casas editoriales, entre otros. Orientada al ámbito profesional, pero abierta también al público general, la Feria de Guadalajara recibe actualmente a más de 800 000 asistentes y más de 2400 editoriales provenientes de más de cuarenta The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL, for its name in Spanish), was founded in 1987 by the university of the Mexican city of Guadalajara. After more than three decades in existence, FIL has become a social, political and cultural reference in the book world. Created to broaden the horizons of books in Spanish and to help this language continue to be a major educational and cultural vehicle of modern society, FIL has three spheres of action –editorial, academic and cultural– and has become a meeting place for authors, their readers and other stakeholders in the book industry including literary agents, librarians, booksellers and over two thousand publishing houses. Oriented towards the professional field, but also open to the general public, the Guadalajara Fair is currently attended by more than 800 000 people and 2400 publishing houses from over forty-five countries.
