(…) Her oeuvre maintains a commitment to emotion and thought, with the study of tradition and the renewed presence of the humanities.” Premio Princesa de Asturias de las Letras Princess of Asturias Award for Literature ANNE CARSON Anne Carson (Toronto, Canadá, 21 de junio de 1950), profesora de Literatura Clásica y Comparada de la Universidad de Míchigan, es, asimismo, una reconocida poeta, ensayista y traductora. Abandonó dos veces los estudios en el St. Michael’s College de la Universidad de Toronto y tras trabajar en artes gráficas finalizó sus estudios en St. Andrews (Escocia), donde en 1986 se doctoró con una tesis sobre Safo. Es, a juicio de la crítica, una de las escritoras más exquisitas y eruditas de la literatura contemporánea, para quien traducción y creación son términos sinónimos. Ha creado un collage entre poesía, disertación, ensayo, ópera y drama. Con 42 años publicó Short Talks (1992), obra a la que han seguido Plainwater (1995) (con una parte traducida al español: Tipos de agua. El camino de Santiago , 2000); The Glass Essay (1995); La belleza del marido: un ensayo narrativo en 29 tangos (2003); Hombres en sus horas libres (2007); Antigonick (2012); Red Doc> (2013); Decreación (2014); Autobiografía de rojo. Premio Lannan de Poesía, Premio Pushcart, Premio T. S. Eliot, Premio PEN de Poesía en Traducción y Premio Griffin de Poesía, es doctora honoris causa por la Universidad de Toronto. Anne Carson (Toronto, Canada, 21st June 1950) is a professor of Classical and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan, as well as a renowned poet, essayist and translator. She left her studies at St. Michael’s College, University of Toronto, on two occasions and, after working for a time in graphic arts, completed her degree at the University of St Andrews (Scotland), where she obtained her PhD in 1986 with a thesis on Sappho. In the opinion of critics, Carson is one of the most exquisite and erudite writers of contemporary literature. For her, translation and creation are synonymous terms. She has thus created an exquisite world, a collage between poetry, dissertation, essay, opera and drama. At the age of 42, she published Short Talks (1992), a work that was followed by the works Plainwater (1995); The Glass Essay (1995); Autobiography of Red: A Novel in Verse (1998); Economy of the Unlost: Reading Simonides of Ceos with Paul Celan (1999); Men in the Off Hours (2000); The Beauty of the Husband (2001); If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho (2002); Decreation: Poetry, Essays, Opera (2005); Nox (2010); Antigonick (2012); Red Doc> (2013) and Float (2016). Recipient of the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry, the Pushcart Prize, the T. S.
