59 Fundación Princesa de Asturias MEMORIA 2020 PREMIO AL PUEBLO EJEMPLAR DE ASTURIAS www.fpa.es SS. MM. los Reyes, en compañía de SS. AA. RR. la Princesa de Asturias y la Infanta Doña Sofía, se desplazaron a Somao la mañana del sábado 17 de octubre para hacer entrega a sus vecinos del Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar de Asturias 2020. Este galardón, que concede la Fundación, es un reconocimiento al «pueblo, aldea, núcleo de población, espacio paisajístico o grupo humano del Principado de Asturias que haya destacado de modo notable en la defensa y conservación de su entorno natural, ambiental, de su patrimonio histórico, cultural o artístico, en iniciativas de impulso económico y social o en la realización de obras comunales u otras manifestaciones de solidaridad sobresalientes». Tras el saludo a las autoridades, la comitiva inició el recorrido por Somao. Esta localidad del concejo de Pravia, estrechamente ligada a la historia de la emigración, cuenta con un patrimonio arquitectónico de origen indiano de notable valor. La visita permitió a la Familia Real conocer algunas de sus edificaciones más destacadas, entre ellas, Villa Radis, La Casona —donde contemplaron el panteón familiar, una reliquia de la arquitectura funeraria asturiana— y El Noceo. Además, accedieron al espacio expositivo La Cuadrona, que alberga obras de artistas asturianos del siglo xx , objetos etnográficos y carteles de cine. Tras este recorrido por el pasado indiano de Somao, la Familia Real se dirigió a La Plaza, donde S. A. R la Princesa de Asturias descubrió la placa conmemorativa del Premio al Pueblo Ejemplar. Acto seguido, los Reyes y Sus Altezas Reales saludaron a un grupo de mujeres de la Asociación de Amigos de Somao, que les obsequiaron con una muestra de las labores de costura y bordado que realizan. A continuación, se celebró el acto institucional de entrega del galardón con discursos a TM The King and Queen, accompanied by TRH The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain, travelled to Somao on the morning of Saturday 17th October to bestow the 2020 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award on the local community. This Award, granted by the Foundation, constitutes a recognition of the “town, village, population centre, scenic area or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that has stood out in a notable way in defending and conserving its natural or environmental setting, its historical, cultural or artistic heritage, or in the carrying out of outstanding communal works or other such displays of solidarity”. After greeting the authorities, they began the tour of Somao. Closely bound to the history of emigration, this village in the borough of Pravia boasts an architectural heritage of Indiano colonial origins of outstanding value. The visit allowed the Royal Family to see some of its most noteworthy buildings, including Villa Radis , La Casona —where they saw the family pantheon, a relic of Asturian funerary architecture— and El Noceo . In addition, they visited the La Cuadrona exhibition space, which houses works by 20th-century Asturian artists, ethnographic objects and movie posters. After this tour through Somao’s Indiano colonial past, the Royal Family went on to the village common, where HRH The Princess of Asturias unveiled the plaque commemorating the Exemplary Town Award. Immediately afterwards, The King and Queen and Their Royal Highnesses greeted a group of women from the Association of Friends of Somao, who presented them with a sample of their sewing and embroidery work.
