Cargado de una voluntad de permanente cambio, su trabajo ha dotado a la experimentación y a la búsqueda de lenguajes originales de una esencia profundamente humana. La valentía de Abramovi ć en la entrega al arte absoluto y su adhesión a la vanguardia ofrecen experiencias conmovedoras que reclaman una intensa vinculación del espectador y la convierten en una de las artistas más emocionantes de nuestro tiempo». “Her oeuvre forms part of the lineage of performance art, having a previously unknown sensory and spiritual component. Imbued with a desire for permanent change, her work has brought a profoundly human essence to experimentation and the search for original languages. Abramovi ć ’s courage in her dedication to absolute art and her adherence to the avant-garde provide moving experiences that demand intense involvement on the part of the spectator and make her one of the most thrilling artists of our time”. Marina Abramovi ć (Belgrade, Serbia, 30th November 1946) studied Fine Arts before leaving Yugoslavia in 1976 to settle in Amsterdam, where she met the artist Ulay. She devised a series of works with him: Relation in Space , Relation in Movement and Death Self , until their collaboration ended in1988 following their spiritual journey, The Great Wall Walk . Other works of hers include Balkan Baroque , Seven Easy Pieces , Lips of Thomas and Entering the Other Side Life, and the operatic production Seven Deaths of Maria Callas . A major retrospective of her work opened at the MoMA New York in 2010, which also included her most extensive performance: 716 and a half hours sitting motionless at a table in the museum’s atrium, where spectators were invited in turn to sit opposite her. She published her autobiography, Walking Through Walls , in 2016. Holder of the Austrian Commander Cross and an honorary degree from Plymouth University, Abramovi ć has received the Golden Lion for best artist at the Venice Biennale, the New York Dance and Performance Award and the Cultural Leadership Award from the American Federation of Arts, among other distinctions. Marina Abramovi ć (Belgrado, Serbia, 30 de noviembre de 1946) estudió Bellas Artes y en 1976 abandonó Yugoslavia y se instaló en Ámsterdam. Conoció al artista Ulay, con el que empezó a colaborar hasta 1988, después del viaje espiritual The Great Wall Walk . Con él ideó la serie Relation in Space , Relation in Movement y Death Self . Otros trabajos suyos son Balkan Baroque , Seven Easy Pieces , Lips of Thomas , Entering the Other Side y el montaje operístico Seven Deaths of Maria Callas . En 2010 se inauguró en el MoMA de Nueva York una retrospectiva de su obra que incluyó, además, su más extensa presentación: 716 horas y media sentada inmóvil frente a una mesa en el atrio del museo, donde los espectadores eran invitados por turnos a sentarse frente a ella. Ha publicado su autobiografía, Walking Through Walls . Cruz de Comendador de Austria y doctora honoris causa por la Universidad de Plymouth, ha recibido, entre otros, el León de Oro al mejor artista en la Bienal de Venecia, el New York Dance and Performance Award y el Cultural Leadership Award de la American Federation of Arts.
