LAUREATES 28 Özlem Türeci (Lastrup, Alemania, 6 de marzo de 1967) estudió Medicina en la Universidad del Sarre (Alemania), donde también se doctoró. Fue consejera delegada y directora médica de Ganymed Pharmaceuticals, empresa que cofundó con Ş ahin. Ambos crearon BioNTech, donde ha liderado el proyecto para el desarrollo de una vacuna contra la COVID-19. Es presidenta de la Asociación de Inmunoterapia contra el Cáncer en Alemania. Ha recibido el Premio Alemán a la Sostenibilidad y ha sido condecorada con la Cruz de Caballero Comendador de la Orden al Mérito de la República Federal de Alemania, entre otros reconocimientos. Özlem Türeci (Lastrup, Germany, 6th March 1967) earned a degree in Medicine from the University of Saarland (Germany), where she also presented her PhD thesis. She has served as CEO and Chief Medical Officer at Ganymed Pharmaceuticals, which she co-founded with Ş ahin. The two founded BioNTech in 2008, where she led the project aimed at developing an mRNA vaccine against COVID-19. She is currently chair of the German Cancer Immunotherapy Association.
