Ellen MacArthur works with her Foundation to change the current paradigm of production and consumption via the better use of resources, based on the reduction, reuse and sustainable recycling of materials.” Ellen Patricia MacArthur (Whatstandwell, Reino Unido, 1976), regatista profesional —en 2005 completó la vuelta al mundo en solitario más rápida hecha por ningún navegante—, es la fundadora de la Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust y de la Fundación Ellen MacArthur, cuyo objetivo es cambiar los hábitos de producción y consumo y acelerar la transición hacia la economía circular. La Fundación impulsa las iniciativas sistémicas dentro del proyecto Mainstream, en colaboración con el Fondo Económico Mundial, y ofrece recursos informativos y plataformas educativas como Circulytics o Economía Circular en Ciudades. En 2020 políticos, directivos y otras personalidades se unieron a su llamamiento para promover una recuperación económica tras la crisis por la pandemia de la COVID-19 a través de un uso responsable de los recursos y la economía circular. En 2022, la Fundación impulsó, junto con WWF, el acuerdo para la creación del primer tratado internacional jurídicamente vinculante contra la contaminación por plásticos. Miembro del Club de Roma y de la junta de la Plataforma para la Aceleración de la Economía Circular, es dama comendadora de la Orden del Imperio Británico y de la Legión de Honor Francesa. Ellen Patricia MacArthur (Whatstandwell, United Kingdom, 1976), a professional yachtswoman –she completed in 2005 the fastest solo circumnavigation of the globe done by any sailor–, is the founder of the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which aims to change the production and consumption habits of the world economy and accelerate the transition to what is known as circular economy. The Foundation promotes systemic initiatives within Project MainStream, in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, and also offers a suite of information resources and educational platforms such as Circulytics and Circular Economy in Cities. In 2020, politicians, managers and other personalities joined the Foundation’s call to promote economic recovery after the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic through the responsible use of resources and circular economy. In 2022, in cooperation with WWF, it launched the first legally binding international treaty against plastic pollution. She is a member of the Club of Rome and a board member of the Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy, Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour.
