9 Fundación Princesa de Asturias MEMORIA 2022 www.fpa.es Es un honor y una gran responsabilidad abrir con mis palabras por vez primera esta Memoria de Actividades debido al valioso legado que recibo de mis antecesores en el cargo. Quiero rendir sincero homenaje a todos ellos y, en especial, a Luis Fernández-Vega, que ha llevado a cabo su labor en los últimos cinco años con absoluta entrega, con inteligencia, prudencia y empeño, a la altura de su calidad humana y de su prestigio profesional. Su presidencia, en tiempos de pandemia, ha sido una etapa de gran fortalecimiento y vitalidad para la institución. Esta Memoria es, como podrán comprobar, la mejor prueba de ello. Sostener, potenciar y reconocer todo lo alcanzado y mantener el prestigio y los fundamentos que sustentan los proyectos e iniciativas de la institución y, en particular, todo lo relacionado con los Premios Princesa de Asturias es la tarea fundamental a la que quiero dedicar mis esfuerzos durante mi mandato. Asumo este cargo con ilusión y compromiso, pues solo así es posible mantener una línea de actuación realista y que mire al futuro. Es este un reto que no afrontaré sola, pues cuento con el apoyo de nuestro Patronato y de los Miembros Protectores de la Fundación, además del excelente equipo de personas que trabajan en ella. Y es, además, un reto que me consta que todos nosotros estamos deseando afrontar. Los datos de esta Memoria son ya parte de nuestra historia. Son también el pilar en que se apoya nuestro futuro. Un futuro en el que estaremos acompañando a Su Alteza Real la Princesa de Asturias y en el que, sabemos, contamos con el aliento de Sus Majestades los Reyes. Desde aquí, animo a todos los que formamos parte de la Fundación y a todos aquellos que nos siguen en cada edición a aportar talento, ideas y a sumarse en esta nueva etapa de esperanza y gratitud. Una esperanza que, como expresó en su último discurso en el teatro Campoamor la Princesa de Asturias, nos impulsa a «escuchar, admirar y reconocer la excelencia de nuestros premiados», haciéndonos sentir «que las cosas siempre pueden cambiar para bien». It is an honour and a great responsibility to provide the opening words to this Activity Report for the first time in view of the invaluable legacy I have received from my predecessors in office. I would like to pay sincere tribute to them all and, especially, to Luis Fernández-Vega, who has intelligently, prudently and steadfastly discharged his functions over the last five years commensurate with his qualities as a human being and his professional standing. His presidency, in times of pandemic, has constituted a period of major consolidation and vitality for the institution. This Annual Report is, as you will see, the best proof of this. The fundamental task to which I wish to dedicate my efforts during my term in office is that of supporting, promoting and recognizing all that has been achieved, in addition to maintaining the prestige and foundations that underpin the institution’s projects and initiatives and, in particular, everything related to the Princess of Asturias Awards. I assume office with enthusiasm and a sense of commitment, because only in this way is it possible to maintain a realistic line of action that looks to the future. It is a challenge that I shall not face alone, as I count not only on the support of our Board of Trustees and the Foundation’s Patrons, but also on that of the excellent team of people that work for it. Moreover, it is also a challenge that I know that all of us are willing to face. The facts and figures presented in this Annual Report already form part of our history. They are also the groundwork on which our future rests. A future in which we shall be accompanying Her Royal Highness The Princess of Asturias and in which, we know, we count on the encouragement of Their Majesties The King and Queen. From here, I encourage all of us who form part of the Foundation and all those who follow us each year to contribute talent and ideas and to join in this new stage of gratitude and hope. That same hope which, as the Princess of Asturias put it in her past address at the Campoamor Theatre, encourages us to “[listen, admire and recognize] the excellence of our Laureates”, making us feel “that things can always change for the better”.
