GALARDONADOS Fragmento del acta del jurado Excerpt from the Minutes of the Jury Trayectoria Background «En el trabajo de Serrat, de honda raíz mediterránea, se aúna el arte de la poesía y la música al servicio de la tolerancia, los valores compartidos, la riqueza de la diversidad de lenguas y culturas, así como un necesario afán de libertad». “With deep Mediterranean roots, the art of poetry and music come together in Serrat’s work at the service of tolerance, shared values, the richness of the diversity of languages and cultures, as well as a necessary longing for freedom.” Joan Manuel Serrat (Barcelona, España, 1943) ha puesto música a poemas de Antonio Machado, Miguel Hernández o Luis Cernuda, entre otros, y sus canciones reflejan la influencia del folclore catalán, la copla, el bolero y el cancionero popular iberoamericano. En 1964 grabó su primer disco y en 1968 fue elegido para representar a España en Eurovisión, pero renunció al no poder cantar en catalán. Algunos de sus trabajos, como Mediterráneo , Utopía o Banda sonora d’un temps, d’un país , están considerados clásicos de la canción de autor. En 2005 presentó el espectáculo Serrat 100 x 100 y en 2007 inició su primera gira con Joaquín Sabina. Publicó el recopilatorio Antología desordenada en 2014, y al año siguiente emprendió una gira de más de cien conciertos. En Nueva York inició en 2022 su último tour , con el que anunció su retirada de los escenarios. Comprometido con la defensa de la democracia y los derechos humanos, se ha convertido en un símbolo en muchos países de Iberoamérica por su lucha contra las dictaduras y los regímenes dictatoriales militares. Doctor honoris causa por varias universidades españolas e iberoamericanas, Medalla de Oro en las Bellas Artes y al Mérito en el Trabajo, ha recibido numerosas distinciones como la Orden del Águila Azteca de México, la Gran Cruz de la Orden Civil de Alfonso X el Sabio y el Grammy Latino a la Persona del Año. JoanManuel Serrat (Barcelona, Spain, 1943) has set to music poems by AntonioMachado, Miguel Hernández and Luis Cernuda, among others, and his songs reflect the influence of Catalan folklore, the copla, bolero and popular songbook of Ibero-America. In 1964, he was chosen to represent Spain in Eurovision, but he stood down because he was not allowed to sing in Catalan. Some of his songs, such as Mediterráneo , Utopía and Banda sonora d’un temps, d’un país , are considered singer-songwriter classics. In 2005, he presented the show Serrat 100 x 100 and began to tour with Joaquín Sabina for the first time in 2007. He released the compilation Antología desordenada in 2014, which commemorated his fifty years on stage, and began a tour in 2015 encompassing more than one hundred concerts. He embarked on his last tour in New York in 2022, which heralded his retirement from the stage. Committed to the defence of democracy and human rights, he has become a symbol inmany Latin American countries for his fight against dictatorships andmilitary dictatorial regimes. Holder of honorary degrees from several Spanish and Ibero-American universities, he also holds goldmedals from the Spanish Government for Merit in Fine Arts and for Merit at Work, and has been recognized with numerous distinctions, including the Order of the Aztec Eagle of Mexico, the Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Alfonso X theWise and the Latin Grammy for Person of the Year.
