Due to her audacity and artistic production, she is considered one of the most influential people in the dialogue between cultures and generations.” Marjane Satrapi nació en Rasht (Irán) en 1969. En 1983, condicionados por el extremismo de la Revolución de 1979, sus padres la enviaron a Viena para finalizar sus estudios en el Liceo Francés. Más tarde regresó a Teherán e ingresó en la escuela de Bellas Artes, y en 1994 se trasladó definitivamente a Francia. Satrapi es autora de una de las mejores novelas gráficas jamás publicada, Persépolis (2000), relato autobiográfico con el que obtuvo el Premio Angoulême Coup de Coeur del Festival de Angulema. La adaptación a película de animación logró el Gran Premio de la Crítica en el Festival de Cannes (2007) y el César al mejor guion adaptado (2008), y fue nominada a mejor película de animación en los Oscar de 2008. Otras de sus obras destacadas son Bordados (2004) y Pollo con ciruelas (2005). Ha dirigido las películas La Bande des Jotas , The Voices y Radioactive y otra de las disciplinas en las que ha destacado ha sido la pintura. Comandante de la Orden de la Artes y las Letras de Francia, es doctora honoris causa por las universidades belgas UC Louvain y KU Leuven y miembro de la Academia de las Bellas Artes de Francia. Marjane Satrapi was born in Rasht (Iran) in 1969. Conditioned by the extremism of the 1979 Revolution, her parents sent her to Vienna in 1983 to finish her studies at the French Lyceum. She later returned to Tehran and enrolled in the School of Fine Arts, but moved back to France permanently in 1994. Satrapi is the author of one of the best graphic novels ever published, Persepolis (2000), an autobiographical story that garnered her the Angoulême Coup de Coeur Prize at the Angoulême Film Festival. The animated film adaptation of the book won the FilmCritics Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival (2007) and the César for Best Adapted Screenplay (2008), as well as being nominated for Best Animated Film at the 2008 Oscars. Other notable works of hers include Embroideries (2005) and Chicken with Plums (2006). She also edited the book Woman, Life, Freedom , which illustrates the revolts that took place in Iran following the assassination of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the ‘morality police’. She has directed the films The Gang of Jotas , The Voices and Radioactive . Another discipline in which she has stood out has been painting. Commander of France’s Order of Arts and Letters, she holds honorary degrees from the Belgian universities UC Louvain and KU Leuven and is a member of the French Academy of Fine Arts.
