GALARDONADOS Premio Princesa de Asturias de los Deportes Princess of Asturias Award for Sports Fragmento del acta del jurado Excerpt from the Minutes of the Jury Trayectoria Background «(…) Además de la mejor jugadora de la historia del bádminton en España y una de las mejores del mundo, es un ejemplo de superación, fuente de inspiración y transmisora de valores, dentro y fuera de la pista». “(…) As well as the greatest player in the history of badminton in Spain and one of the best in the world, Carolina Marín is an example of self-improvement, a source of inspiration and a transmitter of values, both on and off the court.” Carolina Marín (Huelva, España, 1993) es campeona olímpica de bádminton, tricampeona del mundo y heptacampeona de Europa, y se convirtió, tras ganar el Mundial de 2018, en la primera jugadora del mundo en conseguir tres títulos en esta competición. Medalla de plata en el Europeo Júnior y de oro en el Europeo Sub-17 (2009) y campeona de Europa juvenil (2011), en 2013 ganó el London Grand Prix Gold. Campeona de Europa y del mundo (2014), en 2015 obtuvo su primer título de Superseries Premier, el All England, que repitió en 2024. Sus victorias posteriores en los Abiertos de Malasia y Australia la convirtieron en la número uno del ranking . Campeona de Europa 2016 y medalla de oro en los Juegos de Río, en 2017, 2018 y 2021 sumó a su palmarés tres nuevos campeonatos, además de su tercer título mundial en 2018, y en 2023 logró un segundo puesto en el campeonato del mundo y la medalla de oro en los Juegos Europeos celebrados en Polonia. En 2024 alcanzó su séptimo título de campeona de Europa. Medalla de Bronce y de Oro de la Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo, Medalla de Andalucía y Huelva, ha obtenido el Premio Nacional del Deporte Reina Letizia, el de Mejor Deportista Española del COE y el de Mejor Jugadora Mundial de la Federación Internacional de Bádminton, entre otros. Carolina Marín (Huelva, Spain, 1993) is an Olympic badminton champion, three-time world champion and seven-time European champion, who, after winning the 2018 World Championship, became the first player in the world to win this competition three times. Silver medallist at the Junior European Championships, gold medallist at the 2009 Under-17 European Championships and 2011 European Junior Champion, she won the London Grand Prix Gold tournament in 2013. European and world champion in 2014, she won her first Premier Super Series title in 2015, the All England Open, a feat she repeated in 2024. Her subsequent victories at the Malaysian and Australian Opens elevated her to number one in the rankings. European champion in 2016 and gold medal winner at the Rio Games, she added three new continental championships to her list of achievements in 2017, 2018 and 2021, in addition to her third world title in 2018. In 2023, she achieved second place in the world championship and the gold medal at the European Games held in Poland. She garnered her seventh European championship title in 2024. Among other honours, she holds both the Bronze and Gold Medal granted by Spain’s Royal Order of Merit in Sport, the Medal of Andalucía and of Huelva, the Queen Letizia National Sports Award, the Best Spanish Athlete Award from the Spanish Olympic Committee, and the distinction of Best World Player from the International Badminton Federation.
