Ha mostrado con su poesía indómita una capacidad extraordinaria de resistencia frente a la censura». “Combining transparency and complexity, her writing raises fundamental questions about the existence of human beings, both alone and within society, in the face of nature and of history. Through her indomitable poetry, she has shown an extraordinary capacity for defying censorship.” Ana Blandiana (Timișoara, Rumanía, 1942), poetisa, ensayista y política, publicó en 1964 su primer libro de poemas. Trabajó para las revistas Viata Studenteasca y Amfiteatru y como bibliotecaria en el Instituto de Bellas Artes de Bucarest. Hija de un «enemigo del pueblo», se le prohibió estudiar en la universidad y tras la revolución de 1989 inició su vida política con una campaña que promovía la eliminación del legado comunista y la creación de una sociedad abierta. Presidenta de honor del PEN de Rumanía, es miembro de la Academia Europea de Poesía, de la Academia de Poesía Mallarmé, de la Academia Mundial de Poesía y de la Unión de Escritores de Rumanía. Desde 1994 es miembro fundador y presidenta de la Fundación La Alianza Cívica, cuyo propósito es aliviar las consecuencias de más de cincuenta años de comunismo en su país. Traducida a más de veinte idiomas, en español se han publicado, entre otras obras, Cosecha de ángeles , Mi patria A4 , Octubre, noviembre, diciembre y Variaciones sobre un tema dado . Premio de Poesía de la Unión de Escritores de Rumanía y de la Academia Rumana, ha recibido, entre otros, el Premio Internacional Gottfried von Herder de la Universidad de Viena y el Opera Omnia. Es doctora honoris causa por las universidades de Salamanca y Sofía, entre otras. Ana Blandiana (Timișoara, Romania, 1942), poet, essayist and politician, published her first book of poems in 1964. She worked for the magazines Viata Studenteasca and Amfiteatru and as a librarian at the Bucharest Institute of Fine Arts. Daughter of an ‘enemy of the people’, she was prohibited from studying at university. After the 1989 revolution, she embarked on a political career with a campaign that promoted the elimination of the communist legacy and the creation of an open society. Honorary president of PEN Romania, she is a member of the European Academy of Poetry, the Mallarmé Poetry Academy, the World Poetry Academy and the Romanian Writers’ Union. Since 1994, she has been a founder member and president of the Civic Alliance Foundation, an apolitical movement whose purpose is to alleviate the consequences of more than fifty years of communism in the country. Translated into more than twenty languages, her works published in English include The Hour of Sand , My Native Land A4 , The Sun of Hereafter: Ebb of the Senses and Five Books . Holder of the Poetry Prizes from the Romanian Writers’ Union and the Romanian Academy, she has also received the Gottfried von Herder International Prize from the University of Vienna and the Opera Omnia Prize, among other distinctions. She holds honorary degrees from the Universities of Salamanca and Sofia, among others.
