LAUREATES 30 Fragmento del acta del jurado Excerpt from the Minutes of the Jury Trayectoria Background Magnum Photos fue creada en 1947 por Robert Capa, que materializó así su proyecto de fundar una agencia de fotografía periodística como una cooperativa cuyos miembros tuvieran total independencia. Sus cuatro socios fundadores, Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger y David Seymour, han pasado a la historia como los padres del fotoperiodismo. Magnum Photos was created by Robert Capa in 1947, thus materializing his project of founding a photojournalism agency as a cooperative whose members had total independence. Its four founding partners, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David Seymour, have gone down in history as the fathers of photojournalism. The cooperative’s members include some of the world’s leading photojournalists, whose images have appeared in publications worldwide, while its archives contain, among many others, the only existing photographs of the Normandy landings, snapshots of Malcolm X’s speeches and images of Fidel Castro’s entry into Havana in 1959. In 2007, the agency created the Magnum Foundation, aimed at providing fellowships to photographers and preserving its historical archive. In 2010, it sold its collection of printed photographs — for which it retains the copyright — to Michael Dell, who later bequeathed the archive to the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas for preservation and cataloguing. The agency organizes educational activities and exhibitions with a special interest in addressing social issues. Magnum Photos received the 2020 Leadership Award from the International Photography Hall of Fame and Museum.
