60 Princess of Asturias Foundation ANNUAL REPORT 2025 EXEMPLARY TOWN OF ASTURIAS AWARD Fernández Valledor, presidente de la Asociación de Vecinos «El Xardón», de Tuña, y el artista Manolo Linares. A continuación, intervino el maestro Tito Casado Agudín con una conferencia bajo el título «Escuela rural, una escuela para la vida». Posteriormente tuvo lugar un coloquio en el que se dieron cita tres visiones sobre el entorno rural asturiano. Lucía González Cuesta presentó su iniciativa de divulgación científica itinerante, Allande Stars. Leandro Meléndez compartió su experiencia con Fungi natur, un proyecto de cultivo sostenible en los bosques de Santolaya de Cabranes, y Lucía Velasco, ganadera vinculada a las tradiciones vaqueiras, habló del papel de la mujer en el sector y de la trashumancia. A su término, en el exterior, se celebró una demostración de bateo a cargo de la Asociación de Bateadores Barciaecus de Navelgas. El propósito de esta iniciativa, puesta en marcha en el año 2010, es reunir a los representantes de los pueblos galardonados en sus treinta y seis ediciones, a los miembros del jurado y a alcaldes de toda Asturias, para intercambiar experiencias y reflexiones acerca de cuestiones de interés general para la región. A lo largo de estos años, se han abordado temáticas como el despoblamiento y el desarrollo rural; la sostenibilidad; el patrimonio industrial, la emigración, el emprendimiento y la empresa rural; el paisaje y el President of Tuña’s “El Xardón” Neighbourhood Association, and artist Manolo Linares. Next, school teacher Tito Casado Agudín gave a talk entitled “Rural schools, schools for life”, following which a colloquium took place in which three outlooks on the Asturian rural environment were presented. Lucía González Cuesta presented her travelling science outreach initiative, Allande Stars. Leandro Meléndez shared his experiences with Fungi natur, a sustainable farming project in the forests of Santolaya de Cabranes; while Lucía Velasco, a livestock farmer linked to the Vaqueira traditions of seasonal livestock herding, spoke about the role of women in this sector and transhumance. Following the talk, the Barciaecus Panners Association, from Navelgas, gave an outdoor demonstration of gold panning. Launched in 2010, the purpose of this initiative is to bring together representatives of the towns, villages and neighbourhood communities that have received this award over the thirty-six years since its creation, Jury members and mayors from all over Asturias to share experiences and reflections on issues of general interest to the region.
