9 Fundación Princesa de Asturias MEMORIA 2019 www.fpa.es La presencia de Su Alteza Real la Princesa de Asturias por vez primera en la ceremonia de entrega de los Premios que llevan su nombre el pasado mes de octubre en Oviedo es, para nuestra institución, un hecho histórico y el acontecimiento que ha marcado la agenda y la trayectoria de nuestra Fundación en el año 2019. Un acontecimiento que contribuye, además, de manera fundamental, a consolidar nuestros vínculos con la Corona y a dar continuidad a una labor en la que Asturias se implica desde hace 40 años. Como afirmé en la ceremonia, al recordar los estrechos lazos de admiración y lealtad institucional que nos unen a la Corona, “Asturias, que tiene desde hace siglos profundos vínculos con la esencia y el devenir de la monarquía, os acogerá y recibirá siempre con respeto, lealtad y afecto”. En estas páginas, en las que se recoge el resultado del trabajo del último año, se informa de cómo las distintas actividades que llevamos a cabo inciden en nuestros objetivos y persiguen la consolidación de un quehacer en el que, gracias a la extraordinaria labor de nuestros galardonados, nos acercamos y podemos disfrutar de lo que significan la excelencia, los destacados logros del esfuerzo y la inteligencia. Quiero dedicar también unas líneas a la reciente situación de emergencia sanitaria provocada por la expansión de la COVID-19 que, apenas comenzado el año 2020, ha puesto a prueba a la humanidad como sociedad como nunca antes había ocurrido en nuestra historia más reciente. Un inmenso espíritu de solidaridad ha recorrido el mundo con este motivo, lo que nos inspira para redoblar esfuerzos y contribuir con nuestra tarea a fortalecer y a proyectar la imagen de un país que valora todo lo que ayuda a construir un mundo mejor. The presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess of Asturias for the first time ever at the Awards Ceremony that bears her name, held in Oviedo last October, constitutes a historical event for our institution; one that marked our Foundation’s agenda and path forward in 2019. It was also an event that contributed in a fundamental way to consolidating our ties with the Crown and to providing continuity to an endeavour that Asturias has been engaged in for 40 years now. As I stated at the ceremony, recalling the close ties of admiration and institutional loyalty that bind us to the Crown, “Asturias, which for centuries has held deep ties with the essence and future of the Spanish Monarchy, will always welcome and receive you with respect, loyalty and affection.” These pages, which reveal the results of the work carried out last year, report how the different activities we carry out influence these goals in the pursuit of consolidating an undertaking which, thanks to the extraordinary work of our Laureates, enables us to get to know and enjoy the meaning of excellence, the outstanding achievements of effort and intelligence. I would also like to dedicate a few lines to the recent health emergency caused by the spread of COVID-19, which, almost from the start of 2020, has put humanity as a society to the test as never before in our most recent history. The world has consequently been swept by an immense spirit of solidarity, one that inspires us to redouble our efforts and contribute with our endeavours to bolster and project the image of a country that values all that helps build a better world.
