9 Fundación Princesa de Asturias MEMORIA 2020 www.fpa.es En un momento en el que el mundo atraviesa enormes dificultades, y con la premisa constante del cuidado y el respeto a la salud de todos, el pasado 2020 conseguimos, con responsabilidad y prudencia, mantener el espíritu último de nuestra tarea: reconocer el talento y la labor de aquellas personas e instituciones que hacen de este un mundo mejor y extender, desde Asturias, su ejemplo a toda la sociedad. Cuando se cumplen cuarenta años de la constitución de nuestra fundación, en este periodo actual de incertidumbre hemos trabajado para que nuestros premios siguieran siendo símbolo y faro de los valores que a lo largo de todo este tiempo hemos querido potenciar y proteger: el amor a la cultura y a la ciencia, el impulso a la cooperación y la solidaridad, el espíritu de concordia. Ante este reto, nuestra actividad ha estado en todo momento dirigida a sostener ese fin último con el que siempre trabajamos. Han sido meses complicados, pero también de aprendizaje intenso, en los que hemos sentido, quizá con más fuerza que nunca, la comprensión y el respaldo de muchas personas que nos apoyan y a quienes desde aquí quiero dar las gracias más sinceras. A Su Majestad el Rey y a la Familia Real, cuya dedicación constante es imprescindible y nos mueve cada día a trabajar sin dejar paso al desaliento, la desesperanza o la desilusión. A nuestros patronos y miembros protectores, que, en las circunstancias más adversas, muestran la firmeza de su apoyo y su convicción en la necesidad de que este proyecto siga adelante. A la sociedad en general, que se ha volcado, un año más, en el seguimiento de nuestras actividades. Gracias también a los miembros de los jurados, que han puesto sus conocimientos y su tiempo al servicio del reconocimiento a los mejores valores, y, por supuesto, gracias a nuestros premiados, protagonistas del acto de entrega de los galardones, una ceremonia llena de emoción e intensidad y que será inolvidable por el hondo significado de su desarrollo en un momento tan crucial para la humanidad. Seguiremos trabajando con el mismo sentimiento de gratitud y con la misma esperanza en el futuro; futuro que encarna nuestra presidenta de honor, Su Alteza Real la Princesa de Asturias. At a time in which the world is undergoing tremendous difficulties, in 2020 we managed to preserve the ultimate essence of our endeavours, namely that of recognizing talent and the work of those people and institutions that make this a better world and of spreading their example to all of society from Asturias, while at the same time applying the constant premise of care and respect for everyone’s health accompanied by a sense of responsibility and prudence. Forty years on from the constitution of our foundation, in this present period of uncertainty we have endeavoured for our Awards to continue to be a symbol of and beacon for the values that we have wished to promote and protect throughout all this time: the love of culture and science, the urge for cooperation and solidarity, and the spirit of concord. Faced with this challenge, our undertakings have at all times been aimed at sustaining that ultimate goal towards which we permanently strive. These have been complicated months, though also months of intense learning in which we have sensed –perhaps more strongly than ever– the understanding and support of many people who support us and whom I wish to extend our most sincere thanks. To His Majesty The King and the Royal Family, whose constant dedication is crucial, in addition to encouraging us day after day to continue our efforts without giving in to discouragement, despair or disappointment. To our Trustees and Patrons, who, in the most adverse circumstances, have shown the firmness of their support and conviction regarding the need for the continuance of this project. To society in general, which so steadfastly followed our activities yet another year. Our thanks also go out to the members of the Juries, who have placed their knowledge and time at the service of recognizing the finest values, and, of course, to our Laureates, the central characters of the presentation of our awards, an event replete with emotion and intensity that will remain unforgettable for the profound significance of being held at such a crucial time for humanity. We shall continue our endeavours with the same sense of gratitude and the same hope for the future; a future embodied by our honorary president, Her Royal Highness The Princess of Asturias.
