Updated - Press conferences schedule and arrival of the Laureates in Asturias

The Laureates of the 2016 Princess of Asturias Awards, whose Awards Ceremony will take place on 21st October in the Campoamor Theatre, Oviedo, will begin arriving in the Principality on Sunday, 16th. Hugh Herr, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, will be the first to do so.

In addition to featuring in different cultural events throughout the week, this year’s Laureates will hold several meetings with the press, as detailed below.

Representing the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, Patricia Espinosa (Mexico), Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC will collect the award accompanied by Christiana Figueres (Costa Rica), former Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, and Laurent Fabius (France), President of the XXI Conference on Climate Change, held in Paris.

The organization SOS Children’s Villages, bestowed with the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will be represented at the ceremony by Siddhartha Kaul, World President of SOS Children’s Villages International, and his counterpart in Spain, Pedro Puig Pérez. They will be accompanied by Raquel López, who was raised and grew up in one of the SOS families in Tenerife, José María González, an SOS mother for 11 years who has had ties with the organization for 17 years.

SUNDAY, 16th OCTOBER

  • Hugh Herr, Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, will get to Oviedo around 1:20pm.

MONDAY, 17th OCTOBER

  • Richard Ford, Princess of Asturias Award for Literature, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 3:40pm..
  • Mary Beard, Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, will arrive around 5:15pm.

TUESDAY, 18th OCTOBER

  • Javier Gómez Noya, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will arrive in Oviedo around 2:00pm.
  • James Nachtwey, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities, is scheduled to arrive at 4:10pm.

WEDNESDAY, 19th OCTOBER

  • Pedro Puig Pérez, Executive President in Spain of SOS Children’s Villages, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will arrive at Hotel de la Reconquista at 1:20pm.
  • Siddhartha Kaul, World President of SOS Children’s Villages, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, is scheduled to arrive at 8:40pm.
  • Nuria Espert, Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts, will get to Oviedo sometime on Wednesday evening.

THURSDAY, 20th OCTOBER

  • Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, joint Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation along with the Paris Agreement, will arrive at the Reconquista Hotel around 9:20am.
  • Christiana Figueres, former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, joint Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation along with the Paris Agreement, is scheduled to arrive at 1:20pm.
