UU.,1952) se licenció en Sociología, Psicología y Español en la Western Washington University y se doctoró en Sociología en Princeton. Inició su carrera docente en esta institución, donde es profesor emérito Henry G. Bryant de Sociología y Asuntos Públicos. Reconocido por su enfoque multidisciplinar, ha contribuido significativamente en áreas como la migración internacional, la segregación residencial y la estratificación social. Ha sido presidente de la Population Association of America, de la American Sociological Association y de la American Academy of Political and Social Science. Entre sus publicaciones más influyentes se encuentran American Apartheid: Segregation and the Making of the Underclass (1993), coescrito con Nancy A. Denton, y Beyond Smoke and Mirrors: Mexican Immigration in an Era of Economic Integration (2002), en colaboración con Jorge Durand y Nolan Malone. Actualmente es miembro del consejo de Annual Review of Sociology . Doctor honoris causa por las universidades de Pensilvania y Ohio State, es miembro de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias de Estados Unidos, de la Estadounidense de las Artes y las Ciencias, de la Sociedad Filosófica Estadounidense y de la Academia Europaea, entre otras. Ha recibido, entre otros, el Premio de Reconocimiento de Destacado Mérito del Consejo Cultural Mundial de México, el Henry Allen Moe Prize en Humanidades (EE. UU., 2017) y el Premio Bronislaw Malinowski de la Society for Applied Anthropology, otorgado junto a Jorge Durand. Douglas Massey (Olympia, USA, 1952) graduated in Sociology, Psychology and Spanish fromWestern Washington University and received his PhD in Sociology fromPrinceton. He began his teaching career at this institution, where he is Henry G. Bryant Professor Emeritus of Sociology and Public Affairs. Recognized for his multidisciplinary approach, Massey has made significant contributions in areas such as international migration, residential segregation and social stratification. He has served as president of the Population Association of America, the American Sociological Association and the American Academy of Political and Social Science. His most influential publications include American Apartheid: Segregation and the Making of the Underclass (1993), co-written with Nancy A. Denton, and Beyond Smoke and Mirrors: Mexican Immigration in an Era of Economic Integration (2002), in collaboration with Jorge Durand and NolanMalone. He is currently a member of the editorial committee of the Annual Review of Sociology . Holder of honorary degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Ohio State University, he is a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the Academia Europaea, among other such institutions. Among other distinctions, he holds the Special Recognition in Education from theWorld Cultural Council, the Henry AllenMoe Prize in the Humanities (USA, 2017), and the BronislawMalinowski Prize from the Society for Applied Anthropology, awarded jointly with Jorge Durand.
