de la historia de Occidente y la independencia de
Hispanoamérica. Heredero y excelente continuador de
la Escuela de los Annales y del hispanismo francés, ha
contribuido a deshacer muchos prejuicios sobre las
instituciones y conflictos de la época, enriqueciendo el
análisis de la historia europea”.

JOSEPH PÉREZ
Joseph Pérez
(Laroque d’Olmes, Ariège, Francia,
1931), hijo de padres españoles, estudió Letras en la
Universidad de París y obtuvo el título de profesor
de Español. Inició su carrera docente en 1956 en
la Universidad de Burdeos III, donde en 1960 fue
nombrado titular de la cátedra de Civilización
Española y de América Latina.
Heredero y excelente continuador de la labor de
personalidades como el hispanista e historiador
de la Escuela de los Annales Fernand Braudel o de
otros hispanistas como Pierre Vilar, es especialista
en el período histórico que comprende desde el
reinado de los Reyes Católicos hasta el de Felipe II
y la formación del Estado español moderno y de
las naciones iberoamericanas. Su tesis doctoral se
publicó en 1970 con el título
La revolución de las
Comunidades de Castilla
(1520-1521). Este trabajo está
considerado el análisis más completo realizado hasta
el momento sobre la sublevación castellana que tuvo
lugar al inicio del reinado del emperador Carlos I.
Doctor
honoris causa
por la Universidad de Valladolid,
es miembro de la Asociación Francesa de Hispanistas
de la Enseñanza Superior y de las academias de la
Historia de España, Colombia y Portugal, así como de
la de Bellas Artes y Ciencias Históricas de Toledo.
Joseph Pérez
(Laroque d’Olmes, Ariege, France,
1931), the son of Spanish parents, studied Literature
at the University of Paris and qualified as a Spanish
teacher. He began his teaching career in 1956
at the University of Bordeaux III, where he was
to take up the Chair in Spanish and Latin American
Civilization in 1960.
Both heir and successor to the excellent work of
figures such as Hispanist and historian of the Annales
school Fernand Braudel and other Hispanists like
Pierre Vilar, he has specialized in the historical period
ranging from the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella to
Philip II and the formation of the modern Spanish
state and the Latin American nations. His PhD thesis
was published in 1970 under the title
La revolución
de las Comunidades de Castilla
(1520-1521). This work
is considered the most comprehensive analysis
to date of the Spanish uprising that took place
at the beginning of the reign of Charles I. He holds
an honorary degree from the University of
Valladolid, is member of the French Association
of Higher Education Hispanists and the Spanish,
Columbian and Portuguese Academies of History,
and member of the Academy of Fine Arts and
Historical Sciences of Toledo.
