Background
“El jurado ha valorado el carácter internacional
del Programa, su voluntad de mejorar la educación
global de nuestros jóvenes, facilitándoles el acceso
a instituciones académicas de excelencia, y la capacidad
de comprometer a la sociedad civil de cada
una de las naciones en las que está implantado”.

PROGRAMA FULBRIGHT
THE FULBRIGHT PROGRAM
El Programa Fulbright
fue creado en 1946 por el
senador estadounidense James William Fulbright.
Se trata de un programa educativo de intercambio,
patrocinado por el Gobierno de Estados Unidos
y que fue diseñado con el objetivo de mejorar y
estrechar los lazos y el mutuo entendimiento entre
los ciudadanos estadounidenses y los participantes
de otras partes del mundo. En la actualidad, el Programa
se encuentra operativo en más de 150 países y está
dirigido por el Despacho de Educación y Cultura
del Departamento de Estado.
Durante sus más de 65 años de existencia,
las popularmente conocidas como becas Fulbright
han dado la posibilidad a alumnos, investigadores y
profesores de aprender, investigar y enseñar, así como
de intercambiar ideas y contribuir a la búsqueda
de soluciones a retos e intereses de carácter global.
Los estudiantes que cada año aspiran a entrar
en el programa son evaluados por sus méritos
académicos, así como por su potencial de liderazgo.
Hasta ahora, más de 300.000 alumnos han participado
en este programa académico. La Administración
estadounidense concede unas 8.000 becas anuales
entre los estudiantes seleccionados. Más de 150
participantes han sido distinguidos a lo largo de su
historia con premios Nobel, Pulitzer y Príncipe
de Asturias, entre otros.
The Fulbright Program
was established in 1946
by US Senator James William Fulbright. It is an
educational exchange program sponsored by the
US government designed with the aim of improving
and strengthening ties and mutual understanding
between US citizens and participants from around
the world. The program currently operates in over
150 countries and is run by the Department
of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
During its more than 65 years of existence,
what are popularly known as Fulbright scholarships
have given students, researchers and teachers,
the opportunity to learn, research and teach as
well as exchange ideas and contribute to finding
solutions to challenges and interests of a global
nature. Students aspiring to enter the program each
year are evaluated for both their academic merit and
leadership potential. Over 300,000 students have
participated in this academic program to date. The
US administration grants 8,000 scholarships annually
among the selected students. Throughout its history,
more than 150 participants have been distinguished
with Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes and Prince of Asturias
Awards, among others.
