Fernando Fernán-Gómez

Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 1995

The members of the Jury for the 1995 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, José Luis Álvarez, Eduardo Bautista, Víctor Erice, José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez, Manuel Martín Ferrand, Miguel de Oriol e Ybarra, Araceli Pereda, Alfonso Pérez Sánchez gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of José Lladó y Fernández Urrutia, and with José Antonio Caicoya Cores acting as secretary, have agreed by majority to grant the 1995 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts to Fernando Fernán Gómez, and extraordinary comic who, in an artistic and professional life of more that half a century, has built up in Spain and America -on the basis of the greater wealth of this personality- an enviable biography as a film, theatre and television actor, director, author and, in short, creator of entertainment. His work, furthermore is a critical testimony to our times.
