Writer Anne Carson, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature (recorded); Raúl Padilla López, President of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities (recorded); racing driver Carlos Sainz, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Sports, and a representative of the group of Spanish health workers on the front line against COVID-19, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, are to give speeches at the 40th edition of the presentation of the Awards.

The president of the Foundation, Luis Fernández-Vega Sanz, HRH The Princess of Asturias and HM The King will also speak at the act of presentation, which is to be held on 16th October in the Salón Covadonga reception room at the Reconquista Hotel..

The event will be accessible to persons with hearing impairment by means of its transmission in sign language via the Foundation’s website and Spain’s TVE network.

Given the exceptional situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees decided at an extraordinary meeting held on 31st August to move the presentation of this year’s Awards to another location.

The Salón Covadonga reception room is closely linked to the history of the institution, as the founding charter of the Princess of Asturias (then Prince of Asturias) Foundation was signed there on 24th September 1981. It is also the setting where the Juries in charge of conferring the Awards publicly announce their decisions and where the Laureates are received in audience by TM The King and Queen each year.

With the primary goal of preserving public health and minimizing the risk of contributing to the spread of the virus, this new act of presentation will have very few participants and will be held in the aforementioned reception room without the presence of the public.
