Princess of Asturias Awards 10/04/2023
The ceremony will be held on Friday 20th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo

Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Sports, and Luis Pizarro, Executive Director of the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi), Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, and American actress Meryl Streep, Princess of Asturias Laureate for the Arts, are to give speeches at the forty-third edition of the Awards.
To be held on 20th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo, the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony will be presided over by Their Majesties The King and Queen of Spain, with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain.
Simultaneous translation will be available throughout the entire theatre during the event in five languages: Spanish, English, French, Japanese and Italian. The ceremony will be accessible to persons with hearing impairment by means of sign language interpretation at the Campoamor Theatre itself, as well as via the Foundation website. The theatre will also be provided with a hearing induction loop system.
Meryl Streep, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Arts, Eliud Kipchoge, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Sports, Haruki Murakami, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature, and Jeffrey Gordon, E. Peter Greenberg and Bonnie L. Bassler, jointly granted the Princess of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, have already confirmed their attendance at the ceremony.
Hélène Carrère d’Encausse, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Social Sciences, will be represented at the ceremony by her son Emmanuel Carrère, 2021 Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature.
On behalf of Nuccio Ordine, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Communication and Humanities, his partner, Rosalia Broccolo and, his sister, Maria Ordine, will be present at the Awards Ceremony.
The Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative, Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, will be represented at the event by its President, Marie-Paule Kieny, Executive Director, Luis Pizarro, accompanied by Kavita Singh, director of the organization in South Asia, and Juliana Quintero, researcher in Colombia on the Programme for the Study and Control of Neglected Diseases (PECET).
Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, founder and CEO of the non-profit organization Mary’s Meals, Princess of Asturias Award for Concord, will receive the award accompanied by the organization’s director in Kenya, Amina Iddy Swedi, and its director in Zambia, Panji Chipson Kajani.
