Princess of Asturias Awards 10/03/2022

Juan Mayorga, Adam Michnik, Eduardo Matos Moctezuma and Ellen MacArthur are to give speeches at the 2022 Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony

The ceremony will be held on Friday 28th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo

Playwright Juan Mayorga, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Literature, journalist Adam Michnik, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Communication and Humanities, archaeologist Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, and social entrepreneur Ellen MacArthur, Princess of Asturias Laureate for International Cooperation, will be the laureates giving speeches at the 42nd Awards Ceremony.

To be held on 28th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo, the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony will be presided over by Their Majesties The King and Queen, with the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Princess of Asturias and Infanta Sofía of Spain.

Simultaneous translation will be available throughout the entire theatre during the event in five languages: English, French, Japanese, Polish and Spanish. The ceremony will be accessible to persons with hearing impairment by means of sign language interpretation at the Campoamor Theatre itself, as well as via the Foundation website. The theatre will also be provided with a hearing induction loop system.

LAUREATES

Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, joint Princess of Asturias Laureates for Technical and Scientific Research, will not be able to travel to be present at the ceremony due to medical recommendation.

The remaining laureates, Carmen Linares and María Pagés, joint Princess of Asturias Laureates for the Arts, Shigeru Ban, Princess of Asturias Laureate for Concord, and Yann LeCun and Demis Hassabis, joint Princess of Asturias Laureates for Technical and Scientific Research, have confirmed their attendance at the ceremony.

The Olympic Refuge Foundation and the Refugee Olympic Team, Princess of Asturias Award for Sports, will be represented at the ceremony by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, and a number of athletes from the team.
