Meeting between the Princess of Asturias Foundation and the Directorate General for Public Health of the Principality of Asturias

After the entry into force of the return of the Principality of Asturias to “Phase 2”, agreed on by the Regional Government, the Princess of Asturias Foundation held a meeting this morning with the Directorate General for Public Health of said regional government to re-evaluate the previously established prevention plans –approved on 5th October– for the events to be held on 15th, 16th and 17th October to mark the Princess of Asturias Awards.

Given the exceptional situation generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees decided at an extraordinary meeting held on 31st August to move the presentation of this year’s Awards from the stage of the Campoamor Theatre to another location with a more limited capacity and without the presence of the public.

Since the end of February, the Foundation has been implementing a rigorous, ongoing prevention and contingency plan, which is applied directly to the various groups of people who participate in one way or another in the Foundation’s activities (staff, associates, suppliers, artists, auxiliary personnel, etc.).

All these measures, aimed at minimizing the risk of contagion and the spread of the virus, have the ultimate goal of protecting the health of society as a whole.

Statement from the Foundation to all those attending the events organized to mark the presentation of the Princess of Asturias Awards (“Awards Week” events, Princess of Asturias Awards and the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award).

PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS FOUNDATION – COVID-19 UPDATE .15th OCTOBER 2020

Starting from midnight on 14th October and for the next 15 days, the Regional Government of Asturias has adopted phase 2 de-escalation measures adapted to the current epidemiological situation in the Principality.

Following the approval on 14th October 2020 of urgent prevention, containment and coordination measures of an extraordinary, urgent and temporary nature aimed at combating the health crisis caused by COVID-19, published in the Principality of Asturias Gazette (BOPA) on 14th October 2020, the Princess of Asturias Foundation states the following:

  • The events to be held within the framework of the Princess of Asturias Awards/Exemplary Town of Asturias Award/Awards Week were authorized by the Directorate General for Public Health on 5th October 2020.
  • They have been re-evaluated on 14th and 15th October with the competent health authorities, which have confirmed that the authorization is still in force.
  • The Princess of Asturias Foundation continues to apply –as it has done since the beginning of the pandemic– the principle of caution and responsibility to preserve the health of all and has taken extreme precautionary measures in all its activities
  • Notwithstanding, the Foundation recalls that the Government of the Principality recommends that, during the period of validity of this resolution, the population should increase the periods of confinement in their homes and limit their social activity. It has likewise agreed on special precautionary measures for people over 65 years of age or those with health conditions that place them at risk, recommending that such persons should avoid staying in closed spaces with poor ventilation and where there are a large number of people.
  • The Princess of Asturias Foundation also underlines that all the people who have confirmed attendance at its events undertake to:
    • Not participate in them if they suffer from symptoms compatible with COVID-19 (cough, shortness of breath, alterations in taste or smell, temperature above 37º, or other compatible symptoms) or if they have not finished the period of isolation due to a diagnosed illness, or if they are in the midst of a home quarantine period due to having had contact with someone with symptoms or a diagnosis of COVID-19.
    • Maintain a safe distance at all times (2 metres) and avoid any unnecessary contact with the rest of the public present.
    • Attend the event provided with a mask and use it correctly at all times, covering their mouth, nose and chin.
    • Comply with the established order for entering and exiting, respecting the queue and keeping the safety distance.
    • Carry at all times and not damage the contact registration device provided to them at the entrance and hand it over on leaving.
    • Respect the rules established by the organization to guarantee people’s health, as well as the signs regarding entrances and exits and safety distances.
    • Stay in the indicated spaces and comply with hygiene and personal prevention measures.
    • Maximize and rigorously maintain the protection measures indicated by their reference healthcare professional if they have health conditions that make them especially vulnerable to COVID-19 (cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic lung diseases, cancer, immunosuppression or arterial hypertension).
