Ordinary meeting of the Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees

Held today at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo, chaired by Ana I. Fernández

The Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its ordinary meeting corresponding to the second half of the year at the Reconquista Hotel in Oviedo today, where it approved the budget and action plan for 2024 and was informed of the activities undertaken this past year and of the institution’s financial situation and assets.

President of the Foundation Ana I. Fernández and director Teresa Sanjurjo presented a report detailing the activity carried out by the institution throughout the year, with special attention to the Princess of Asturias Awards Ceremony and the cultural events leading up to it, as well as the impact that all this had in the media.

The report includes information on participation at the cultural events organized to mark last October’s Award Ceremony, which were attended by more than 42 000 people, in addition to the 9861 participations by students from the 128 schools in the Principality of Asturias that participated in the “Taking the Floor” cultural programme.

The economic evaluation of the news generated by the Foundation during October in the traditional Spanish media –not including digital media– amounted to more than forty-four million euros (44 683 286 euros), according to data provided by media monitoring consultants Onclusive.

Budget 2024

Once the information corresponding to 2023 had been presented, the Board of Trustees unanimously approved the action plan and budget for 2024, amounting to 6.58 million euros. This figure that once again reflects the Foundation’s budgetary independence, with 87.5% of its income coming from the private sector and 12.5% from public grants.

The Board of Trustees has also approved the incorporation into this governing body on a rotating basis –as members of the Princess of Asturias Board of Trustees– of TSK, represented by its Economic-Financial Director General, Beatriz García Rico, and the Grupo Azvi, represented by its chairman, Manuel Contreras Caro.

It likewise approved the incorporation to the Princess of Asturias Board of Trustees, an honorary body, of the María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation, to be represented by Carolina Compostizo; the Port Authority of Avilés, chaired by Santiago Rodríguez Vega; the Cuatrecasas law firm, chaired by Rafael Fontana; the Bank of America Europe DAC, represented by its chairman, Joaquín Arenas de Bedmar; Iberia, whose CEO is Fernando Candela Pérez; the Asturmadi Group, chaired by Alfredo Suárez Álvarez; and Altamar CAM Partners, chaired by Claudio Aguirre. The Aleastur Group, chaired by Sergio Martínez García, has also been incorporated as a Patron.

The Board of Trustees also agreed to the appointment as Emeritus Trustee of Javier Navia-Osorio García-Braga, who has reached the age limit of 75 years established in the Foundation’s Statutes for members of its governing body, and to whom the Board expressed it “gratitude for his contributions throughout all these years”.
