The Princess of Asturias Foundation

The Princess of Asturias Foundation Board of Trustees held its first meeting of the year today in Oviedo. Both the president, Ana I. Fernández, and the director, Teresa Sanjurjo, reported on the administration of the Foundation’s finances and assets and the carrying out and follow-up of the activities undertaken this past year and, in particular, on the list of nominations submitted to date.

During the meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the permanent suspension of the institution’s children’s and youth choirs, which have been inactive since February 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Foundation Choir will continue with its usual activity, as has been the case since it regularly resumed its artistic programme and rehearsals in 2021.

The incorporation of the Caja Rural del Sur Foundation to the Princess of Asturias Board of Trustees and of Clotilde Calvo Sánchez as a Patron has also been approved. Furthermore, the recently deceased Romualdo Alvargonzález Figaredo, whom the Foundation’s Board of Trustees fondly remembered and whose “invaluable support over so many years” it wished to acknowledge, is to be succeeded as a Patron by Alfonso de Riva Alvargonzález.

The institution's governing body has agreed to appoint Francisco Goicoerrotea Sarri, Marquis of Valdeterrazo and Chairman of the Board of Trustees’ Audit Committee, as Emeritus Trustee, after he ceased to serve on said body in compliance with the statutory limit of 75 years. The Board of Trustees has expressed its gratitude for “his valuable contributions, loyalty and dedication since his incorporation in 1980”.
