Oviedo is to host the “27 Years of Exemplary Towns” exhibition to mark the 27th anniversary of the conferral of this award granted by the Prince of Asturias Foundation. The exhibition will be located on Paseo de los Alamos promenade from 17th to 23rd October, coinciding with Awards Week.

It includes a selection of significant images and texts in the history of this award, comments on the relationship of the exemplary towns with Asturian cuisine, as well as general information on the Prince of Asturias Foundation, the events surrounding the Awards Ceremony and the activities of the Music Department.

The exhibition includes a selection of significant images and texts in the history of this award, comments on the relationship of the exemplary towns with Asturian cuisine, as well as general information on the Princess of Asturias Foundation, the events surrounding the Awards Ceremony and the activities of the Music Department.

This exhibition was first held in 2010 in San Esteban de Cuñaba (1990 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award). Since then it has toured other towns and villages also honoured with the award, such as Villaviciosa (Cubera Association of Friends of the Villaviciosa Landscape, 1991), Castropol (neighbourhood community of Castropol, 1997), Moreda (San Martín Humanitarian Society and the village of Moreda, 2007), Torazu (2008), Porrúa (2005), San Tirso de Abres (2011), Teverga (neighbourhood community of Teverga, 2013), Rioseco (neighbourhood community of Sobrescobio, 2009), Boal (2014) and Colombres (2015).

Created in 1990 to mark the 10th anniversary of the Prince of Asturias Foundation, the Exemplary Town of Asturias Award is bestowed with a cash prize of twenty-five thousand euros and has a different nature and features to the Prince of Asturias Awards. The Award goes to the “town, village, population centre, scenic area or group of people in the Principality of Asturias that has stood out in a notable way in defending and conserving its natural or environmental setting, its historical, cultural or artistic heritage, or in the carrying out of outstanding communal works or other such displays of solidarity”.
