To mark the bestowal of the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for Literature on Anne Carson, the Princess of Asturias Foundation has organized an online meeting with the Canadian poet, essayist and translator, as well as a series of recitals revolving around her work.

A poetry recital based on one of the texts from her most recent work, Float, will be screened at La Vega Former Arms Factory during “Awards Week”. The poems will be recited by the Laureate herself and will be accompanied by eloquent images. A live link-up with the writer is scheduled and a brief interchange is expected to occur. The recital/meeting will take place at 6:00pm on Monday 12th October.

At the same location, actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón and actor José Luis García-Pérez will figure in a multidisciplinary recital based on the book The Beauty of the Husband. A Fictional Essay in 29 Tangos, a chronicle of the breakdown of a marriage. On this occasion, poetry will fuse with different visual projections and tango music performed live. The performance will take place at 8:00pm on 9th and 10th October.

Awards Week
These activities form part of “Awards Week”, a cultural programme designed by the Foundation that includes the participation of the Princess of Asturias Laureates in a variety of activities during the days leading up to the presentation of the Awards.

Since 1996, the Foundation has scheduled different activities aimed at making the Laureates and their contributions to the world of science, culture or any other field in which they work better known to society at large.

Due to the mobility restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the participation of the 2020 Princess of Asturias Laureates in this year’s “Awards Week” will be limited. The cultural programme will be adapted to the special health circumstances of the present moment, adjusting its formats and audiences and centralizing most of the activities on the premises of La Vega Former Arms Factory in Oviedo, thus allowing the formulated prevention plan to be fulfilled with the maximum of guarantees.

Access to all “Awards Week” events is free. The Foundation will announce the complete programme of activities in the coming days, as well as the procedure for obtaining tickets.
