The Spanish architect Rafael Moneo, Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, the American philosopher Martha C. Nussbaum, Prince of Asturias Award for Social Sciences, Peter Maurer, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Tadateru Konoé, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, on behalf of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, bestowed with the Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation, were the laureates responsible for giving speeches at the XXXII Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony.
The president of the Foundation, Matías Rodríguez Inciarte, and HRH the Prince of Asturias also spoke at the ceremony, which was held at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo.
The ceremony featured a simultaneous translation service in four languages for the entire theatre. The Foundation distributed 1,600 receivers among the public and attendees were able to hear speeches by the laureates in English, French and Japanese, in addition to Spanish.
Peter Maurer and Tadateru Konoé, representatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, were accompanied at the ceremony by Amal Eman, a voluntary worker of the Red Crescent in Egypt, and Celia Fernández, President of the Red Cross in Asturias and the longest-standing voluntary worker in the region.
The award to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks was collected by its president, José Antonio Busto, who was accompanied by two voluntary workers.
Following doctor’s orders, the US writer Philip Roth, bestowed with the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature, was not able to attend the ceremony for health reasons.
